This machine takes a industrial needle. It is a BL x 1. It does not have a flat side like a household machine. It is round on the top part. So you have to put it in with the groove in the front. All sewing machine needles have a groove in the front. Put the needle in with the groove facing you.

Flat side of needle is away from you when entering the needle holder then tighten (be sure machine is facing you and flat side of needle is on the opposite side)

How do I bypass the blades on a Riccar RL-343DR serger so I can hem?

Perhaps the manual would be helpful:

RICCAR RL343DR Instruction Book Page 14

It appears that you need to install a hemming foot.

It is not easy but it is very similar to stitching a blind hem on a sewing machine--except you will also have to be careful that the knives do not cut the fabric. It can be done, but some practice would be good before trying it on a garment. The skill is stitching on the very edge of the fabric without getting it into the knives. If you were to disable the cutting knives on your serger, you could very easily break a looper or knock the machine out of time because the knives prevent the fabric from extending into the looper action.

Here are some videos (more available online):

A coverstitch machine would stitch a hem such as what you want, but that's because it does not trim the fabric--it basically is like using a twin needle in a sewing machine.

Needle hits bobbin casing.

Don't know if you have a manual or not. You can read the manual from the link below. I would look for the bobbin area in the manual. There should be a section showing the bobbin area for cleaning and oiling. It may as simple as removing and reassembling the bobbin case.
It could be the timing and would require a service repair technician.

My needle broke on my serger and i replaced it and now wont make stitch. please help

some times when you break a needle in a sewing machine or
serger it can cause the machine to jump time, it would be a good
idea to have the machine checked for a timing problem or to see
if when the needle broke it caused a problem with another part in
the serger.

I broke my needle on my frontier simplicity serger and i need to know how to change it

usually a little screw driver that you use on glasses is ok to use or
a small screw driver that size. that's what I use on my serger.

My machine is about 20 years old but in very good condition, i have never had trouble with tension untill about a month ago, but now i cant seem to rectify it i have broken a few needles trying to sort it,...

It sounds to me like something may have been accidently changed. Double check bobbin is clean and in correct position. Also see if there is a thread caught in one of the tension guides, by pulling a thread carefully through the machine towards the needle.
Rather than breaking needles, test the tension by putting foot down and pulling on thread by hand , if its too easy to pull through something is causing the tension to be too loose

Threading rl-635 serger--wife is trying to tread this machine and the lower something or other doesn't work. Cannot find a manual, and the tape they sent with the machine is all messed up.

Sergers can be a bear! One miscue and - well you know. My old serger was threatened more than once.

Are the instructions for this model printed on the inside of the door or on the machine?

Note every guide and make sure none are missed.

Raise the thread antenna to it's highest position.

Raise the presser foot and turn the tensions to zero.

Start threading with the upper looper, making sure the loopers are not crossed.

The upper looper is the one that appears to be taking the thread toward the needles.

Make sure the threads do not cross as you then thread the lower looper (this one appears to be taking the thread away from the needles).

Lastly - thread the needles; right needle first.

Take the ends of the thread under the presser foot and toward the left side of the presser foot.

Lower the presser foot and set the tensions back to 3 - 6.

Stitch a chain of thread before stitching fabric.

If this works, and I sincerely hope it does, never let the serger run out of thread.

Snip the thread near the cone and tie off snugly with the new thread.

Lift the presser foot and open the tensions and stitch or gently pull the thread toward the back of the serger. The knots should clear all but the eye of the needles - stop, cut before the knot reaches the eyes
