Hi, my door opener is sears/craftsman model #139.53603, 1/2h.p. . The door was a-ok then only opened about 3' I adjusted the travel limit setings and force settings and gained about 1' more travel. The mechanical mechanism is good all gears and bearings are not excessively worn and work well.

It sounds like you have a broken door spring. Look closely - some breaks are hard to see.

How do i set the travel limits on my craftsman garage door opener 139.53919

  • Open the garage dooricon1.png fully by pressing the wall control button. The bottom section of the door should be right at the header in the "full open" position. If it is too far back, the door cable can become misaligned. If it is not back far enough, you may not be able to get your vehicle in and out of the garage.

Position a stepladder behind the garage door openericon1.png motor. Locate the limit adjusting screws on the left side of the motor housing. Have a friend stand by the wall control button.

It sounds like your door is traveling just a bit too far in the down direction. Locate the 'down limit' adjustment on the side of your motor unit and turn this control a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will then be necessary to get it just right.

Can the travel limits on a Chamberlain security+ be reset?

If you are at the back of the operator looking toward the door the limit adjustment should be on the left hand side.
The adjustment closest to the door is the down limit turn that 3 turns clockwise. The adjustment screw furthest from the door is the up limit turn this screw 3 turns counterclockwise. That should get you close to factor settings. If this does not work; remove the cover on the operator sometimes the limit assy. come apart.

My door opener is new, Chamberlain, mod cg40cd, the drive will hit both limits. will not let me set the up and down limits, doesn't seem to matter whether I set the up and down to max either way??????

THE TRAVEL ADJUSTMENT IS ON THE SIDE.
YOU MAY BE ADJUSTING THE SENSITIVITY (TRAVEL LIMIT HAS NO MAX ADJ.)
BE SURE TO RESET THE SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT TO ABOUT 1/4

Craftsman 1/2hp garage door opener does not go down to floor

I'm no expert, but on a previous door opener I had (don't know the brand), the side adjusting screw basically adjusted a limit switch, which was located inside the plastic housing (where the motor is). I was able to remove the housing, figure out which limit switch was actually being contacted "too soon" on the way down and adjusted it while watching it.

Just a suggestion, you might take a look.

just keep your hands out of the way of the chain and sprocket if you do take the housing off. .

3/4hp craftsman will not close the door fully

There are adjustments on the unit itself that control the distance door travels to close as well as the force it uses to close. The info and location of controls is indicated in the manual that came with your unit.
