Question about Nikon Coolpix L1 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Limited Battery life

When I bought this camera  ( Nikon Coolpix L1) when it first came out I loved it, but it "ate"  AA batteries so I would only get 2-3 shots with a flash. After using it for a month, I took it back and they gave me another new camera, which does the same thing. I talked with technical support, but they wanted me to send the camera for repair ( with not idea when I would get it back). Now I am out of warranty, as I had to use the camera for taking other pictures.  I love the camera in all ways, except I cannot take any flash pictures without keeping at least 4-6 batteries on hand at all time. Is there any way to fix this problem? Is it draining the batteries even when it is off and why does it take so much juice to take one flash --even the throw away cameras can take 12-15 pictures in a row? Help --I am ready to throw it away and get a new one if I cannot figure out how to fix it. Thanks  MA

The rechargeable batteries are never charged fully enough to be used in the camera,( even though they show they are at about 98 percent)  so if I am lucky, I will only get 1 flash picture from re-chargeables and only half as many regular pictures as the AA. So since I take more non-flash pictures, I get more use from the non- rechargeables.

Why dont you use rechargeable batteries? that way you would save a lot of money compared to buying new ones right?

how about trying the lithium batteries specifically for digital cameras. althought these batteries are expensive, they would give you more than your previous experience.

Please do not assume the battery is good. This sounds like a dead battery. Many Coolpix cameras that take AA batteries will draw power when off.

Purchased my nikon coolpix s4100 3 weeks ago and it says battery exhausted. what should i do?

We own a Nikon Coolpix camera as well, which uses regular AA or rechargeable AA batteries.
Assuming you have tried new batteries, (if you haven't, try new alkaline batteries), it's probably time to get a warranty replacement.

You might want to also look at the battery connections inside the camera to make sure they are clean and making good contact with the batteries.

Good luck

I just bought a Nikon coolpix 3000 yesterday and I pluged for charging 6:30Am this morning. However the charge light is still blinking now(4:00Pm)Is this something wrong??

Hi,

There is a possibility that the lithium batteries are dead and won't charge up. You can go out and purchase 4 AA rechargeable batteries and put them in the battery pack and see if they will charge up.

If you still get a problem with the camera not charging, take the camera back and have it replaced.

NOTE: rechargeable batteries lose their life after a short while so it is a good idea to carry spares around with you.

Regards.

NIMH Battery goes off after 20 shots for Nikon Coolpix L01

the camera takes just about any AA pair of batteries ... lithium will give you the most pictures .. your NiMH batteries should last longer unless they are old .. you may have one weak battery ... you can try a pair of standard alkalines to see if there is something wrong with the camera .. if those work ok then you need a new set of NiMH ... there is a new type out called "eneloop" .. they are just like normal NiMH except they dont go dead when you store them .. even after a year they are still charged .. with normal NiMH batteries as they age they will self discharge in 2 weeks or so .. so you have to charge them just before you use them ..otherwise they go dead on their own .. if you charge them then not use them for a week then you will not get nearly as many pictures ... the eneloop batteries fix that .. you can also recharge them many more times than standard NiMH batteries .. they cost about the same ..

Which batteries?

Here is your answer.....

Battery Life: Good battery life for a camera running from two AA cells. The Nikon Coolpix 4600 uses two AA batteries for power, but its lack of a standard external power terminal prevented me from conducting my standard power measurements. It does seem to have pretty good battery life, particularly if you run it from high-capacity rechargeable NiMH cells.

Did you try using the coolpix batteries that came along with the camera? check the ratings on coolpix batteries and compare them to the batteries that you are using now.
