My unit is new a xmas gift.i have 3 ways of chargeing the unit.when you charge it in the house do not turn unit on till after the unit has charged.in the car plug it in and the picture of the battery goes away that is telling you it is chargeing in the care.gram6

The battery is bad and is not holding a charge that is why the gps goes off as soon as you disconnect it from the computer. Replace the battery and the gps will work perfectly fine once again.

Just use your USB cable that came with it to connect it to your computer. It will charge just fine. You can also use a cell phone charger that has a USB connector. A lot of cell phones use this type of charger now and the charge will work fine with the GPS>
You CAN download updated maps. You must first purchase the map updates, usually in the form of a CD from a local retailer or from Garmin. You can also download the manual for the C330 from www.garmin.com.
The batteries on the units are not meant to be serviced by the unit. If you are not familiar with taking it apart, you may damage internal components in trying. If the unit needs service, it is best to return it to Garmin and let them take care of the repairs. As far as the battery not holding the charge, if you have not done so, charge the unit on the computer for a few hours. This sometimes helps.
