Question about Samsung HCN4226W 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Samsung HCL552W I have a problem with this tv. it began last week when suddenly, the picture and sound went off and the red indicator light began to blink. I could nto turn it on or off using the remote or at the set. I unplugged the tv, plugged it back in and pushed the power button on the set and the picture came back on, but only for a few minutes, then the same problem. If we left it unplugged for a day or two, it would come on and work for a couple of hours then same problem. Today, I tried to turn it on after a day of it being off, but it would not turn on at all. The red indicator light lights up steadily now and I pushed the door close button on the front of the set and the door moves a fraction of an inch then stops. I finially got the door closed completely, but it took several times of unplugging and plugging back in to get this done. At no time did the picture or sound come on even briefly, though I can here the set click off and on when it is unplugged or plugged in, and we do have the red indicator light that shows me there is power. Could this be a bad circuit, or circulation problem? Is there anything that I can try before having to spend the big bucks to have a repairman come out to look at it? I really appreciate your help.

Sounds like the old lamp blew and took out the ballast. I believe that you need a new ballast for your unit. The other possiblity would be a problem in the low voltage power supply but if the indicator lights are blinking the most likely problem is the ballast.

I have a tip at which explains the problem, how to repair it and where to get the parts. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks for using FixYa and the generous rating.

that is a common problem with that model you will need the v26 power pwb repair kit and the V26 FMT pwb repair kit. You can get both kits at the following link which includes the replacement capacitors and instructions on where the capacitors are located. Heres the link.

Red lines and strong red tint to picture

By placing your hand over the red lens you stop it's convergence with the other two colors by stopping it's light emmission. That tells you two things, (1) convergence of the red tube is way off; (2) it hasn't yet placed any load on the 20+/- supply line or the unit would be in shutdown. You'll need to have the convergence amps replaced though. ICz103 and ICz104 are a Samsung p/n#BP13-00006A or the more common equivlent Sanyo STK394-250 and you'll need two of those. Good idea to test and replace any of the feed resistors that may have changed in value also. If any of this sounds complicated take it to a reputable shop. Most shops may have the parts on-hand and it's not too expensive a repair. With the above info you'll at least be on some higher ground with the repair shops you call to see if they have the parts and how much they generally charge for convergence repair for your model. Good Luck Bill
