Question about Canon PIXMA iP1600 Printer

1 Answer

Printer port I'm running Windows 98.  Last May my printer stopped functioning after my system went down. I got my system back up, but failed to get my printer to work again.  I discovered that I need to install the latest driver for my printer, so I downloaded it from Canon.ca.  I followed all the instructions with precision but still fail to get my printer to work. When installing the version 8.61 driver, with the printer on, after the USB cable is connected securely to the computer, then to the printer, the printer cannot be detected.  The driver appears to be successfully installed, but when I try printing a document from Front Page, for example, it indicates that it is printing to LPT1, and I know this is wrong, because I'm using a USB cable and therefore, it should be connected through a USB port of some kind.  What is the name of the port I should be connected to and how do I access it?  I continue to get an error message saying "Error reading to Canon...make sure printer is turned on and on line" I have 3 Canon printers now, and they are all useless, and they are less than a year old.  Are the printers themselves broken, or is it a software issue that you can solve for me?

How do you get an external sata disc mounted in a dock (Thermaltake Black X dock) to communicate with a WIN 98 SE system? The box says the dock supports WIN 98 buit I cannot find drivers that work.

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 98 over two years ago,
and stopped supporting Windows 2000 on July 16, 2010.

So, any company that manufactures "new" (in the last two years) hardware probably will _NOT_ have written device-drivers for Windows 98/98SE/NT/2000.

Does the external disk work correctly when connected to a computer running Windows XP? Vista? 7 ?
If not, then maybe the external disk itself is the problem.

Error Code: 2753 " Fatal Error or error MSI.dot4msi"

CAUSE:
Certain HP services (and associated DLL files) were somehow partially/improperly installed. (Possibly, from a previous failed install?)
The Windows services (files) were:
Pml Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZipm12.dll)
Net Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZinw12.dll)
The existence of these 2 files in the System32 directory was causing this error in my situation. Somehow, the installation script was not identifying that these files were already installed (or improperly installed) and failing to properly set them to be installed again.
SOLUTION:
Steps:
1) Check to make sure that the 2 Windows services above are not running (or not installed).
2) Rename/delete the 2 associated service DLL files (this will only be possible once the services are stopped)
3) Run the installation again.

Usb 2.0 windows 98

Windows 98 SE supports USB 2.0. The original Windows 98 (gold) or Windows 98 OEM or Windows 98 Upgrade versions which are not SE will not support USB 2.0. Nor is there any way to get USB 2.0 support for these Windows 98 versions unless you upgrade to Windows 98 SE.

Note that the Windows 98 SE upgrade CD will fail upon completion, leaving the SE Upgrade with a corrupt registry, if you try to run the Windows 98 SE Upgrade CD on a Windows 98 system that has a version of IE installed which is higher than IE 4.
