Need to locate jumpers on dell latitude d420 notebook

You can skip the jumpers reset, by unplugging or removing the coin cell (CMOS) battery for at least 4 minutes. This works on all PC's whether laptops or desktops. This resets the NVRAM, just like the jumpers would do.

1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JqB4lkVxkA

2) Or take the laptop to the nearest authorized Dell repair shop; your ID, proof of purchase of laptop, and a credit card. Dell representative will ask Dell for a Master Password. Dell rep will then reset to NO password, or one you want. Dell rep KEEPS master password.

Removing CMOS Battery (Real Time Clock Battery. Also called Coin-Cell battery), will NOT work.

BIOS passwork can be removed by temporarily disconnecting/ removing the RTC/ CMOS (Coin-cell) battery from the motherboard. The battery is underneath the keyboard. Click here for disassembly instructions and here are the details and graphic illustration about CMOS battery from Dell official Site.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery cable connector from the system board connector. It will reset the BIOS to its default setting and the password would be gone.

GoodLuck!

I changed the battery on my D630 and lost the date & time. I assume the cmos battery is bad. Where is it located on a D630 and what is the battery #?

CMOS Coin-cell is located under the keyboard. You have to remove the hinges cover and keyboard to access the coin -cell

Please study the following two links giving clear instructions about changing the coin-cell battery of Dell D630.

My dell latitude D820 will not keep time and or calendar. Ever since i switched out the main battery it wont keep up. Is there another battery or something I need to switch?

You may need to change the coin cell battery as well, it sits under the memory module cover. It's usually covered in a little blue plastic coating and has a red and black wire coming from it to a small white plug. You should be able to get a replacement for it at your local Radio Shack or electronics store. This battery is what keeps the time and date current on your machine.

Lost system password

Only way to remove a BIOS password on any computer is to remove all power sources from the motherboard so its memory can be cleared.

First, remove the main battery from the laptop. Then you must locate and find the little coin cell battery (It looks like a watch battery) on the laptop and remove it for about a minute or so. Then you can replace them in the opposite order.

Your coin cell battery is in a bay on the bottom of your computer. Enjoy!
1. Before removing the coin battery:
2. Locate the memory module cover on the bottom of the system.
exmem01.jpg 3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the cover.

4. Lift and remove the cover from the system.

5. Locate the coin battery.

6. Use a fingernail (or small flathead screwdriver, if necessary) to release the battery ZIF connector.

8. Reverse the previous steps to replace the coin battery.
