LCD/Video Card? on IBM ThinkPad T30

On startup, LCD flickers around, you can see the Windows Start up for a few seconds, then goes out. If I leave the laptop on, the hard drive grinds away for a loooong time and during that time, the screen flickers in and out, occasionally I'm able to make out images but now that the hard drive has settled down, nothing. The back light is working but I can't see anything at all on the screen. I plugged in an external monitor and it works fine, so that would rule out the video card, right? If it's the cable from the laptop to the LCD, where can I find detailed steps to take it apart and try to repair it? Thanks so much.

I was able to download a copy of the manual for it which showed exactly how to dissassemble it. I was able to unplug the LCD from the motherboard and looked it all over. It wasn't dirty at all and didn't look out of the ordinary. But, I couldn't find the other end, up into the LCD itself. I was uncertain about going further because I don't want to mess up the backlight as I know it's working. I put it all back together and am back to square one. On startup, the LCD will briefly show the Windows XP splash screen and then flicker out like those old televisions did when you turned them off, kind of like zap to the middle of the screen and blip, it's gone. I can still plug in an external monitor and it works perfectly. Thanks for trying.

No sound ibm thinkpad t30 windows xp sp3

After checking the obvious (volume control mute not checked, volume slider not all the way down, and volume button on keyboard is not pressed to mute) -

Go into Control Panel, system, hardware tab, device manager, Sound and Video Game controllers, and delete the sound card. Reboot your system. Windows will find the sound card and re-install it.

Hope this helps.

My ibm thinkpad t30 boots up but my monitor is blank

Do you hear any startup sound when you turn it on? If there is, try hooking an external monitor. If it has good display, replace LCD, if not then it may be a videocard problem. possible motherboard replacement will resolve this issue.

Ibm t30 laptop has no video at start up

Try doing a hard reboot.

Unplug AC and remove battery.
Press and hold POWER for 30 seconds.
Plug in AC.
Turn on.
Upon bootup insert battery.

If this does not work I regret to say the graphics card is busted.

Tried to install update and computer crashed

A few ways to try and eliminate.
Upon startup F8 for safe mode: Last Know Configuraton

Hit F8 for safe mode. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore
Doesn't work then: need Windows CD setup. Let it run and hit R for Recovery Console. At the DOS prompt type FIXMBR or FIXBOOT.
