My sigma sport onboard computer isn't registering my speed or distance at all. I had a fall about a week ago, and haven't used the bike until yesterday. The computer is still on and working (well, the clock is still accurate) but there may be a problem with the connection between the magnet and the computer. The magnet and sensor are still where they were, not jolted out of position, so I'm not sure how to pinpoint what the problem might be. Everything looks to be connected. I'm not even sure where to start looking to fix this.

The magnet, as you might know, induces a very small current by wizzing by a winding with a small iron core to make a blip of electricity. The controller needs very little blip to register anything, so the first thing to do is to put the bike upside down or in a repair stand, and adjust the magnet and pickup coil so that the magnet is as close as you can get it to the pickup coil. Spin the wheel fast and see if you are registering anything. If not, it is time to pop out the ohm meter and take the computer off its mounting (leaving the bracket there on the handlebar) and check continuity by putting the ohm meter on DC voltage 1x scale, hook the leads up to the nodes that are seen on your handlebar computer bracket, spin the wheel and look for movement of the needle on the ohm meter (or change in a digital readout on a digital meter). If you don't see this, fix the open in the wire. Most likely it is not your computer, but it could be.

I had this problem as well. What I found was that the transmitter path from the magnetic sensor to the computer is very narrow, a 15 degree cone. Reposition your computer to fall within this cone. It should pick up the signal.

Without input from the wheel sensor it will not calculate anything. If it's wireless maybe it lacks a good line of sight or it's too far away. Take it off the handlebar, prop the bike so you can spin the wheel and hold the computer close to the transponder to see if it indeed CAN see it. Then work out the distance or line of sight issue.

Don't fixate on your computer once you get it working. I destroyed a bike frame when I crashed while watching my first bike computer at the end of a ride.

Here is the link to Sigma Sport. They have a good customer service and I would discuss directly with them. That way whatever is determined you cut out several steps and either get the unit replaced or fixed properly with advice that is direct from the source.

This may also be a warranty situation in which case again you will eventually need to go through Sigma Sport.

You have done all the normal things that make sense to diagnosing the problem, sounds more like the problem is internal. One thing to also keep in mind, electronics like this do wear out and sometimes they just start to die off. This may also be the case, but Sigma Sport will be able to tell you.

Good luck

get a tape measure and measure the out side circunfrance of the wheel. This is you number. OR put a white dob of paint on the tyre and roll it in a strainght line until the dob of paint makes a 2nd mark, (on a path way etc) measure the distance. this will be the same as the first option.
