I have the same issue. I have replaced everything and it still leaks. It looks like the flow of water is too much and the water overflows the reseviour at the top of the filter.

Yes, it seems like too much water flow and the filter can't handle it. I have water being pulled down to the bottom of my return and creating a lake. It destroys my paper furnace filter. That can't be good for the furnace blower can it?

I would agree that my problem is probably related to too much water flow, but all of my water is coming out on the outside of the furnace. It is dripping out of the side of the filter and out the Aprilaire cover. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for us?

Ive got a 560 thats been installed for 8 years. Recently the unit started a "drip" type leak.... new filter pad, completely cleaned, and still cant find where its coming from.

I thought the pad may be touching the frame of the furnace, so I used some "parts" to actually place the filter as far forward (when installed) so as the pad wont touch the frame. That seems to have slowed it, but its still dumping water all over.

Ill fuss with it some more later, but this may be indication of replacement

no water in bottom of pad housing at drain hole, it's blowing out into the air stream and hitting the bottom edge of the humidifier housing and draining down to the cover edge. i made a deflector and fastened it to the slanted edge of the pad housing, but it still leaks. i think the problem is due to the increased air speed of a high efficiency furnace. aprilair needs to re-engineer their product

I have an Aprilair 560. After installing a high efficiency furnace, water would leak from the bottom of the furnace to the floor drain when the humidifier was on. I checked everything to try and see why the water was not running clean through the filter. As a last resort I unscrewed the humidifier and pulled it away from the furnace about one inch to see what was going on inside. Water was literally being sucked from the filter, about halfway down, into the furnace. I guess this furnace is too strong for the humidifier and pad design.

I have the same problem. It seems to be a type of "blow back". I lowered the water flow, changed the wick media, checked for proper drainage and still have the same problem. Any solutions?

On the filter side of the water solenoid, remove the black line and make sure it has a small yellow water orifice on the end of the hose where it enters the solenoid. It meters the water flow to your filter. My mothers humidifier was dumping water out the housing. Called the company who installed it and a technician didnt even look for it. They tried to sell her a whole new unit. I searched the internet, bought one on ebay for $6, installed it in two minutes, working great now!

Hello,All the pads have a protectant(white) coating because the pad is aluminum and would rot out fairly quickly from getting wet.The slime is bacteria(fungus) not from the coating that forms from stagnant (sitting) water.Make sure the unit is draining out dry after each cycle. With the pad out pour vinegar OR bleach & water (10:1) to kill the mold in the drain pipe.Do not clean the pad at all ,it gets replaced. They sell an inexpensive wet floor alarm at the store that makes noise when wet.

In the water line where it connects to the solenoid is an orifice. You can install a smaller plastic orifice or you can install a manual feed valve to where you can control the flow.

If the water stops when the heater is not running then the humidifier is working fine. I know it seems like alot of water but that's how it's designed.

Aprilaire 550 makes extremely loud grinding noise when turned on

yes it should be bypass but solenoid could be trying to open but the voltage to it may be to low if you have 24v ac power at the 2 small wires. but to change shut down power to furnace and water to loosen the 2 compression nuts unwire they cant be reversed so dont worry then 2 mounting screws then reverse to install

Hi! is it a humidifier or dehumidifier? if you want to remove mold you need a dehumidifier to absorb the moisture on the air. provided that the unit is capable of absorbing the moisture on your basement floor area. because a typical dehumidifier can only accommodate a 21 square meters floor area.

I have a Aprilaire 550 Humidifier. The feed tube is cracked and leaking. How do I go about replacing it. When I use a wrench to remove the copper end, will water come pouring out?

Thanks for your question,
what you need is called an ( Ice maker kit ) any hardware store or appliance store should carry these, the copper tubing is 1/4 in, the kit comes with the service valve for turning on the water once installed, be careful, turning it on before the line is hooked will get ya soaked, it has compression fittings, make sure you dont cross thread the nuts when installing, you may have to shut the main water supply off to the house before doing this, the instructions are fairly easy to read, you can get 25ft - 100ft ice maker kits, you are going to need a tubing cutter and a cresent or box end wrench, and a big flat head screw driver, hope that help ya, lets us know, thanks again for the question,
