Go to your nearest electronics store and buy a new, better Mp3 player. Seriously, this happened to me too, and the website nor the FAQ on the easyRIP program could help me at all. They kept telling me to update the firmware, but I can't do that if the computer won't read the player.
But I digress. To reiterate - buy a new player from a company that actually knows what they're doing. I did it, and it worked for me.

Write rca and complain. They need to recall the product.

I have to disable Opel or do an uninstall from Device Manager then reconnect it to be able to get it to charge.

Hello, I was having all kinds of problems with the rca pearl not working. It would not recognize it or download to it. I reformated the player and then with windows media player I went into rip then into options. I told the computer to save my ripped cds directly to the player. It worked like a charm. I now have all kinds of music on. I have not found any other way to get music on the player and I am a newer mp3 user. I have vista and it worked fine on my xp but not on vista except with this fix. Hope it helps.

Mine was one of the postings above. Ended up after multiple contacts with RCA/Audiovox that the Opal that I had was not compatible with Windows. So they sent me one that was compatible and it works very well. We haven't had any problems since. Thanks to Audiovox for making things right.

I've actually had mine for a very long time. About 2 years. But a couple of months ago, it started giving me trouble when I wanted to link it to the computer. Sometimes it would turn on, but it would rarely ever connect. And I need it to now more than ever.

Why wont my mp3 player charge?

I have the same problem.
it seems that the windows media player is causing it to shut off.
if you disable the media player, the rca will stay on but you can transfers files.
so far i haven't found another media player that will work with the opal.

its not your son's fault. Apparently this product sucks. I contacted RCA and they told me that if i had my receipt they'd send me a refurbished product or to send in $55 and they'd fix it. apparently MANY other people have problems with this product. My suggestion is if you have the packaging and receipt just choose another product. RCA knows this product sucks yet wont recall or help in fixing it.

Some models have reset switches some do not.
Look on the back of your mp3 there should be a tiny hole there.
That is the reset switch for most opal. Other way to reset is hold power button down for 15 seconds.
If you cant find it you will have to go to the RCA website and download the latest firmware.
