Update version error (80020321)

What version did you update to? most likely the lens is just dirty a little alcohol and qtip and the lens can be cleaned but be sure to be careful. You can also buy a cleaning disc as well. If you need further assistance let me know, also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thanks,

If your PSP isn't reading games and/or movies and the problem isn't that your trying to play dirty, bent, or damaged UMD discs there are a number of other reasons your PSP is not reading disks correctly =

- Your UMD motor may be malfunctioning.
- Your laser may have worn down from use over time.
- Your UMD drive tray may be bent.
- There may be a foreign object in your UMD drive

Common symptoms

* disks fail to load
* extremely slow loading
* strange whirring noise when trying to read disks

Psp problem

if it doesnt read the disk,you may want to open it up (but voiding the warranty) and clean the UMD drive.
if it doesnt read just one UMD,it might be the disk.
if cleaning the UMD drive doesnt work,you may have to get a new drive,or a new psp.

Psp

Hi,
do you mean that it won,t read the UMD Disks.
If this is the case, you have a faulty Or weak laser unit or the UMD Drive is faulty.

PSP umd region code

yes, try changing region to region 1 as it is possible the umd (disk you bought) is designed not to run unless the region matches. you'll probably have to change it again if you want to read disks from different regions.
my kids have the psps on their holidays at the moment back tomorrow, i will check the restore menus tomorrow for you and see if there is any other changes possibley needed,
also it is worth a try but try changing xmd to umd disk ( eventhough this is for access to memeory usually for usb connection, although it could be something to do with ver 3.71) note youl have to change it back to enter usb mode from your computer.
is yours the PSP slim version or standard version, ?

Hi Jleew,

You should check to see if another UMD will work first.  Also try them in another PSP.  If your sure your PSP is not reading Discs, then and only then, Clean the Laser lens carefully.  Using a strong flashlight and magnifying glass, look into the UMD drive with the UMD door open and look for debris like hair or lint, and also dirt and dust.  A black switch pokes up on the left inside the UMD drive.  Its a little black stick.  When you press down on this Black stick, your UMD disc motor should spin for  second or two.  The UMD laser lens should light up when your press this switch.  If any of this does not happen, you need to replace the UMD drive. If you need someone to do this which if you have never done it, you need some knowledge big time.

I can do this for you if you're in the USA for $55 including a New UMD drive, REturn Shipping, and 90 day warranty. Contact [email protected]
