Outlet - unplug the power cable and put it on an outlet on its own Power Cord - make sure you remove the power cable from the back and plug it back in to make sure you have a good connection. things that cause this blinking light: Power Supply -open system and follow cables to make sure its connected well to each part. I/O Panel - this is where the power button is at . just open the system and follow it behind the power button.the flat cable going to the mother board , disconnect it. plug the power cable to the wall and if the system starts up then the power supply is good and the the cable that you just disconnected is bad.

If it still doesn't power up remove
memory
hard drive
dvd/cd drive
and start the system.
no luck then it is the systemboard.

Do the fans run? If not the power supply is most likely bad. Hopefully it didn't trash the motherboard, memory and any installed cards. If you can't hear the hard drives spinning up, then it has to be the power supply

I have dell optiplex GX280 when i press the power button i dont get any display and cpu fan reach to its max speed how can i fix this prob?

May be serious. See if the power light goes amber after power up. I had (have - still siting in my basement) one that did same. Power up, fans sound like 747 taking off. Power light goes amber. This is USUALLY caused by bad capacitors on the mother board. Known GX280 problem going back. If you look on the motherboard, the capacitors should have flat tops and not leaking. If the are rounded or leaking, the MB has probably gone bad.

I obviously can not be 100% sure about this as the unit is not here.

You can google this and see the issues. Here is one such link.

Flashing yellow light from start button.

  • Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
  • Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
Eliminate interference - Some possible causes of interference are:
  • Power, keyboard, and mouse extension cables
  • Too many devices on a power strip
  • Multiple power strips connected to the same electrical outlet

OptiPlex GX280 PC Desktop only start de fans tun

I have had this problem and never quite got to the bottom of it. Because it doesn't get too far when in starts I think it is memory related or bios. Opening and closing the case can reset the bios on some computers so check this setting in bios, to stop it happening try turning of sleep or standby function in bios.

OPTIPLEX GX280 BIOS UPDATE NOW SYSTEM WONT START. ORANGE LIGHT SHOWING ONLY! Before the upgradation, My system was working perfectly fine. After the installation. My system is not working and the orange...

You need a start-up CD and re-flash the Bios to Factory settings that worked. Best guess would be something was wrong with the BIOS package you had installed or someone/something messed up the installation which is causing your problem.

If you have factory CD Try to start the computer with that in.

Dell Optiplex GX280 - On power ON , no Fan movement no display

Confirm no leaking or bulging capacitors on your mothboard.
refer to here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

As this was a common problem with the GX280.
If found, you will need to replace the capacitors.

The other check is to make sure the heatsink is fitted correctly, perhaps reaply the thermal paste if you have any. I know that high temps would switch the GX280 off.

Dell Optiplex gx280 shuts down and orange power light blinks

It happens because the power supply is overheats and computer goes to standby. The power supply is 160w or lower. Specially it will happen if you put more devices in such as video card or sound card. So the only solution you have is to place a small 1or2 fans toward the power supply to make it cooler. And 1 more thing the power for the fans should come from other sources.
