I have the same issue. I bought a set of DSS7815+1 to go with my DSS7855+1. I have somehow managed to register my two new handsets with my original base unit, but cannot get the original two handsets to work. They will not deregister, and the screen says they are out of range.

I have the same problem and did the above and it will still not work

  • jbarmen Feb 21, 2009

I had two handsets, on two different systems, both Uniden, with this problem. The posted solution worked like a carm. The trick was to keep the # and * keys depressed while plugging the battery back in, though I have to admitt that little proceedure was a little tricky. John.

Unplug the battery. Hold down The * (star) and the #(hash) keys simultaneously. Re-connect the battery, phone will beep and screen will be blank. Press the voicemail (righthand silver key under the lcd screen). As above EEPROM/RAM message will appear. Place handset on base and your problem is solved.

I successfully reset Radio Shack (Uniden) 5561 handset by reconnecting the battery while holding the '*' and '#' key, then press the right upper soft key near the LCD window. The display will indicate "EEPROM/RAM cleared!!" and will return the handset to the factory default condition - looking for a base to register to.

So, I've 2.4 GHz Digital, RadioSHack: I had this problem where I could only see the "Out of Range" message.

So, I did the following-press the menu Menu/Del, then go to System Reset, then go to Replacing Base, then it will give you "YES" or "NO"-select YES. Then it will tell you to place the handset on the phone (phone base)-when you do that, it will tell you to wait while it is connecting-and it should connect shortly.
Hope this works. I tried the other steps and wasn't able to fix the problem.

I have uniden cordless phone model dxa15588-2, how do I register handset on base?

1-Press the hangup key (represented by a red phone) and the "#" key at the same time for at least five seconds.
2-Select "Deregister hs." Choose the handset and press the "Select" key (which also shows an envelope for messages).
3- Choose "Yes" to confirm deregistration. The phone clears its registration information from the base and deletes the link from its memory. The message "Handset not registered -- place handset on base to register. See owner's manual for help" now shows on the display. If you are out of range of the base, "Out of range" shows.
4-Place the handset in the base charging cradle. The phone automatically selects a new security code from those stored in the base.
5-Make sure your phone is working again after "Registration Complete" shows on the display
Hope this will Help. Thank you for using Fixya !!!

Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.
