W880i keeps switching to USB mode when cable is

I don't think there is direct format code. If you wish to format the memory card, you can do it after connecting the phone via usb cable to the computer as "Mass Storage" mode. If you mean resetting and deleting all the phone's memory, please click this LINK and follow the instructions. Good Luck.

you need to get your phone checked at a sony service center or a third party repair shop(use only if out of warranty).
either your Ribbon inside the folding hinge is broken.
or you have something shorting the PCB inside the phone.

do not attempt to open it on own, you won't be able to fix it.
just my 2 cents.

Please have a look to this... First attached the usb cable with pc then with your phone if an option appear on your screen to chose phone or file transfer mode then there is no problem with your usb cable if the option does not appears then your pc suite is ok the problem is in your usb cable or the tooth of your mobile are dirty.

you can use the cable the came with the phone and connect it to the pc via usb but you can only transfer them when you connect the phone to the pc while the phone is switch on and you select the "FILE TRANSFER" menu

1. Connect your W550i phone to your PC using the USB cable.
2. Use it in File transfer mode.
3. Go to it's Others folder on the Memory Stick that just appeared over at the My computer screen. (probably called PHONE_CARD or something similar).
4. Copy the .jar files from your PC to the Others folder on the phone's stick.

5. Disconnect your phone properly (safely remove hardware) and allow it to restart or return to Phone Mode.

6. Go to your files on your phone (File Manager) and go to Others. Select the file, click Install.

7. It'll ask where you want to install the file, either in the Applications folder or the Games folder.

you have to first install the cd software that came with the phone.....then when that is done connect the phone to pc via usb cable, then switch it to file transfer then transfer from music-photos to the phone memory or memory card........

Get a Sony USB cable for ur phone.
Attach ur phone to computer with the help of USB data cable and set it to File Transfer Mode.
Now u get a extra drive into ur My Computer.
Open it and paste MP3 songs in Audio folder

U have to pick a right port number from control panel in which usb ur phone is connected.U get a a sony software icon in control panel.Use it to pick a right Port for ur phone.
