Question about Lexmark X5470 All-In-One InkJet Printer
So I got this new printer, a nice Lexmark X5495 all-in-one, fax, scan, copy, photos, prints, all the bells & whistles, right? I install it step by step just like it tells me to do. Everything shows fine, all appears hunky dory. Go to control panel, it says ready, big happy checkmark, it's set as default printer, it's online. Just one problem, it won't print. I get this nasty message that says there's no communication between the computer and printer. I tried 3 different USB cables. I unplugged, restarted, rebooted, tried every USB port on my puter, no go. Same thing. I checked windows firewall, the Lexmark stuff is all checked as exceptions, meaning they are being allowed through. I deleted the other 2 printers from the system. I uninstalled the new printer and reinstalled it - 5 times. I just have the feeling it's something in where the USB cable is hooked up. I have 4 USB ports in the back of the puter. I have 3 in front. All the troubleshooters tell me to check the USB connections and cables, then restart. No go. Same thing. I have Windows XP Home. I have listed this problem under Lexmark X5470 cause the 5495 wasn't listed.
I've been at it for 5 hours now. I know it's something simple and stupid, but that's me - simple and stupid. Any ideas?
1st -make sure that the USB cable is connected on the correct port of your printer - you might be plugging it on the ports of the telephone - you got 3 ports there - 2 for the telephone ports and 1 for the USB
2nd- check your service if print spooler and lx devices are started (lexbce or lxdcu) - if not.... start it
>start >run>type services.msc > enter
3rd- if still no go - uninstall your driver and download windows vista x64 printer driver on their website

Local printers (Lexmark printers) when they connect to the computer (either by USB or Wireless) will be listed as an internet application trying to access the computer, that is why you need to allow it in the exceptions list of any firewall, whether it be Windows Firewall or any anti virus firewall. SImply turning off the firewall will not allow it to access or go throught the security (especially with Vista).

I un-installed my NTL netguard and reinstalled and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep getting an error message with my 5470 that says unable to cannot connect with application list. It won't let me scan or fax from my comp. Any help?

You might want to check you printer options and make sure that the port of a USB is checked.

I have the same problem as above but our security system is McAfee and I cannot figure out how to disengage it.

With the Lexmark printers communication subsystem you MUST let the driver ask for you to plug in the printer. DO NOT plug the printer into the USB port until told to do so.
To fix a fouled install:
(1) Uninstall the Lexmark drivers in Add Remove Programs
(2) Shutdown the computer
(3) Disconnect the printer from the USB port
(4) Restart the computer
(5) Run the Driver Installation software
(6) Cancel ALL attempts by windows to auto install the printer
(7) When the software asks for the printer connect it and continue

I had the same problem with a X5470 and fought it for a couple of hours. I installed and reinstalled the software, tried different USB cables and ports, etc. It would print OK from the front panel, but no communication with computer. On a whim, I disabled Norton Virus protection and it started working. When Norton was re-enabled, it wouldn't print again. Obviously some conflict with the two, but I still haven't figured out a better workaround yet.

is the printer in its own USB port? Some printers that "talk back" to the PC do not like to share a port so do not have it on a USB HUB.

2. Re-brick your printer.
Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the
back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
4. Reboot your pc.
5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.
6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
