Error 4 in bosch nexxt washer

we set up our drainage in our washer through a 3/4 hose that drains directly to our main abs drain out to the septic system. the hose rises to about 7 feet above the floor, then 10 feet over to a wall and then down 1 foot to the abs drain. every thing was going fine for a year or so until we got some error 4 codes.

I've checked the septic line (drains fine), and cleaned out the 3/4 hose and the grey drainage hose that attaches to it...they were pretty blocked by soap.but got them cleaned out.....we are still getting the error 4 code though my wife claims it only happens on the 2+ load of the day.

we are wayyy out in the middle of nowhere, and getting a bosch repairman out here is expensive...any help, including up to replacing of computers/sensors would be appriciated.

I'm thinking that too....I might install a pump, which would allow for a wash basin as well. So the experiment would not be a total "wash" (get it?)

my only concern...why did it work fine for the first year...?

I also get Err 4 when the program reaches the stage where it needs to drain. I hear a loud buzzing noise at first, then after 2 min or so, the Err 4 code appears. It looks like it does it every time we try to drain.

In my case, the drain hose does not go higher than the height of the washer - I live at the 3rd story and the pipe goes straight down.

I've tried cleaning the grey drain hose : there was some dirt in there, but not that much. My guess is that the building drain pipe is not blocked, since the water would overflow (my drain hose from the washer is just inserted in a bigger pipe in the wall, it is not thighly fitted).

    I'm wondering:

    - could the "internal drain pipe" - the one that is inside the washer - be blocked by dirt?

    - could the drain pump need repair?

In both cases, what could be done before calling a repairman?

Lowered the hose by 10-12 inches and strapped it to a main drain line that slowly lowers to the wall where the input into the main drain line. My assumption is that this would be less height to push the water out and the straight downward path is easier to push water through than how the hose was draped slightly up and down through the strapping before.

Result: it seems to be much better, although we still get an error if another major item is draining at the same time i.e. bath. I also checked the venting, and it's not blocked. And no, the septic is not backing up, and I've cleaned the front cleanout out. But I think this is indicating that with to much pressure, we get the error 4, and reducing the pressure will help.

the next step is to drain it out the basement door as a test if we get the error in a no upwards pump scenario. if we do not get an error, I'll elevate the unit by 12-18 inches to cut down on the pumping, then if that does work, I'll install a wash basin with its own pump.

I still have no idea why this is occurring 1 year after 1st install -
the washer was 2 years old at the point of this installation (we
moved), and from my understanding, most electrical motors degrade
quickly after 1st few uses to about 90%, then stay fairly constant in power
till eventual failure. The manual states it will pump up to 8 feet, although it
does not specify from floor or from exit point. currently it is
pumping up 7 feet from the floor.

correction: if the elevation does not work, then I''ll install a basin.

    report back:

lowering the drain line 1 foot solved the problem...if it reoccurs, I could also raise the units by 1 foot .

still at a bit of a loss why this started happening after working fine for a year, but hey, it's working!

The problem here is that the waste pipe is rising to high up above the floor,, the top limit should be machine height ideally. The pressure built up by the water is not manageble by the drain pump.. in reality the waste water is acting as a blockage hope this helps

any questions dont hesitate to ask im here to help cheers got to go

Bosch Nexxt Premium Washing Machine Drainage Blocked. Cleaned out impeller still not working.

You need to check the drain pump externally to see if the pumping is good Also remove the drain hose clamps and remove the drain hose flushing to clear off all dirt. Now test using power to see if this works and can be simulated. When refitting, the hose must be tightened properly. If the pump/valve does not work even with power then it must be replaced. If there is intermittent power to the drain valve/pump then the program controller unit is a suspect.

Cleaning a pump:

Finally the washer must be placed with a tilt- use a spirit level- so that all water will drain to the outlet port and thereby there is no residual water remaining.

Replacing the pump on a Bosch machine, please check this link for tips:

Error code E:13 on my 500 plus series washer

The E13 error code on your Bosch washer refer to a drainage problem or the pump time might have been exceeded
Either it might be due to a clogged pump, improper detergent being used, ( must use "HE" detergent ) hence suds not allowing a proper drain cycle. You should clean water drainage pipe and/or drain hose. Turn selector to off and restart 'drain, program or, on 500 plus machines, the 'refresh' program. It also says this is caused by using too much detergent. Bosch recommends using half of what the manufacturer recommends when using HE detergents. They don't recommend regular detergents. First run the short wash or refresh cycle without detergent and hopefully your lines will clear.

Thank you !!

I have Bosch Nexxt 500 Washer. It stops draining and flashes E04 error. Any idea what is causing it or how to troubleshoot and repair?

The error indicates that the machine has taken too long to drain the water. Do the following.

  1. Switch off the machine and disconnect the mains power.
  2. Remove the access panel on the lower right front of the machine.
  3. Remove the filter and make sure that the filter is not blocked and is clean and clear of all debris. Clean as required.
4. Proceed by checking the drain hose for proper connection and kinks and make sure that it is not blocked.
5. Also check that the main waste drain pipe, if you use one, is not blocked and clean if required.
6. Reconnect the power and switch the machine on.
If the problem persists then do the following.
7. Switch off the machine and disconnect the mains power.
8. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure it is operational.
9. Remove the connecting hoses, and expect water to drain out and make sure the pipes are not blocked with debris or any object blockage.
10. Makes sure the pump appears clear and that the impeller looks in good condition.
11. Reconnect the hoses and then reconnect power and switch the machine on.
12. If problem has not been corrected, then remove the pump and check that the drive coupling to the motor is OK and that the motor turns OK. If all is well then replace the pump.

Cannot get to drain washer if the hose needs to go up into ceiling to get to septic pipes

usually the outlet and the pump is capable of pumping out at the maximum high of 3-4 feet from the drain. if any higher than that, you need to add a pump in line.

hi sir one of these problem will be there 1 - No cold fill. Check that the taps are on or if the drain hoses are kinked.
2 - No hot fill. The ambient temperature is likely to be below freezing possibly due to the pipes being frozen. Also check that the taps are on or if the drain hoses are kinked.
3 - No mixed fill. It is likely that the water is not turned on at the taps.
4 - Check the water supply, inlet valve and hot and cold hose connections.
4 - A fault with the water heating has occurred.
5 - Water is not being pumped out and a flood condition could occur. Check that the drainage hose is raised to the recommended minimum height and that the pipe is not blocked.
6 - Extremely high water level Disconnect or turn off the water supply and ensure that the water level does not rise any more. Then book a service engineer.
7 - Door not closed properly. Close door firmly at the 3 o'clock position.
E20/1 - The thermistor resistance has drifted or the temperature scanning sequence is incorrect. The ambient temperature could be below freezing.
thank u............

My Bosch Nexxt Essence front load washer is making a knocking and squeaking noise during the whole spin cycle. It sounds like it's coming from the drum mounts - what should we do?

My Bosch Nexxt Essence front load washer will not drain. I changed the lint filter, and insured that the drainage hose was free of debris. I removed all the wet clothes, wrung out the excess water, and redistributed the clothes. Still, no draining or spinning. Initially there was a humming sound, but now there is no sound at all when I try to restart the drain or spin cycles. All the lights are appropriately "on".
