Right-click on your computer screen...then click on Properties in the pop-up menu. You should see the "Display Properties" window. Now click on the Settings tab and you'll be able to try a different resolution setting.

This problem is because, when you formatted your PC, you have installed improper display driver of your PC model. This is also because of less capacity display/graphics card.

Wide screen monitor distortion
Depending upon the screen resolution that has been set in Display, the image will be distorted on these large wide screen monitors.
To correct this distortion.
1. Create a large circle image using a draw program such as Paint (hold down the Shift key as you create the circle as it will draw a perfect circle).
2. Open Control Panel - Display - Settings tab and adjust the Screen resolution slider, increase or decrease the screen resolution then bring the circle image to the front and check the image, if the circle is still distorted then change the screen resolution and check the circle again until you are satisfied with the image of the circle.
3. When you are satisfied then click apply.

I can't get my desktop to cover the whole screen. I have windows 7. How can I get it to cover my whole screen?

If you mean the wallpaper, you will need to go into the desktop properties and set it to stretch the image. If you mean the desktop will need to change the screen resolution.

Standard monitors use dimentions like 1024x768, but a wide screen uses one like 1280x768. If you use a resolution that doesn't match the aspect ratio of the monitor it will fill in the extra space with black space and no desktop.

I bought new monitor Compaq S1922a and picture stretched horizontal. I have HP intel with Vista. How to adjust VGA to make picture normal?

if the whole image is too long you can adjust it from tthe image driver will be in the right side on the task bar near the programs that are opened all the time ..and named like the video card you are using and usually will display when hoovering the resolution in the resolutions and choose one that fits best...and confirm ..
To adjust just the the picture from the desktop ..right click on the there choose the desktop image ..or change image ..and you will have 3 possibilities for adjusting the picture to ...stretch..and tile.. see them one by one ...if non of the stile will make it visible in a normal way ..then you should change the picture,,and choose a wallpaper that it is in the same form and big enough to fit....
T change a picture on the wallpaper it is enough to right click on it when its opened ..and choose it to be set as wallpaper from the list of tasks...

What video card is in my computer?

You can right click the mouse on the windows desktop and select PROPERTIES, there you select the SETTINGS tab and look for a resolution slider, move it and see if you can find the resolution you need.

To find out what video card you have, you can click on the ADVANCED button on that same SETTINGS tab. It will open a new window where you will need to click on the ADAPTER tab. There will be the info on the graphic card, the resolutions it can support will be listed on the LIST ALL MODES... button.

Take into account you might have an integrated graphics card, so it may be necessary to know the manufacturer of the motherboard in order to find an updated driver that supports the new resolutions of new wide screen monitors.

Any other doubt on this subject feel free to ask on this same post.

The screen is broken and i need to connect it to a pc monitor in order to get data off but the monitor is saying no signal.... it showed the windows startup but then turns off

most likely, that's because the video resolution or frequency is not set correctly for the "new" monitor.
i am assuming that you are NOT ref'ing to a laptop computer being the one you need data from...
your best bet will be to begin tapping the "F8" key prior to seeing the windows load screen. you should see the "ACER" screen first then it will normally transition to the windows loading screen. when you see the ACER screen, start tapping the "F8" key approximately once per second (if you tap too rapidly, you will get a keyboard error... in which case, just reboot the computer.). once the "F8" stroke is successful, you should get a list of options. one of the options should say "Safe Mode" and "Safe Mode with Networking". using your arrow keys, select one of them and press enter. hopefully, being in safe mode will allow your "new" monitor to display the default frequency and resolution.

2 problems: 1. Is there a way to make the images on my 19 inch acer lcd monitor not appear stretched? 2. How do I get a screen resolution of 1440 x 900 (It's not one of the options in my display...

1. The only way to avoid stretching of images is by increasing the resolution. Many 19-inch monitors with conventional (4:3) aspect ratios have 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution. The 1600 x 1200 resolution is ideal for graphic artists and those who work with photos, since it's close to the resolution of a 2-megapixel digital photo.

2. You can double check by going to the display properties - Settings- Advanced tab below the screen resolution slider, choosing the Adapter tab, click List all modes and that will settle it once and for all. If 1440 x 990 isn't listed you're likely going to have to buy a graphics card that can reproduce that resolution.

Also try and update the driver for your graphics card.

Acer x213W - setting the resolution

Sorry about the delay. I also just purchased an Acer x213w and had some trouble setting up my computer in order to achieve the optimum resolution of 1680x1050.

I'm using an HP Pavilion m7170n, so it's a bit old and thus could not support this widescreen resolution. However, my computer comes with an ATI Radeon graphics card and, upon contacting HP Support, was allowed to download ATI's "Catalyst Control Centre". After installation, these drivers added the option of selecting a screen resolution of 1680x1050 from Desktop properties.

So this is my solution to you: simply google your graphics card along with 1680x1050 driver and hopefully you'll be able to download a driver update which does the same for you as it did for me.
