I am trying to install a ford factory CD/cassette radio ford part number XL2F-18C868-BB in my 1996 Explorer XL. Everything plugs in fine but there is no sound. I've checked the wire harness and everything...

There is a separate plug for the speakers, if you are replacing a non factory radio then maybe these speaker cables were re-routed to an amp. or something?

You can purchase a harness adapter that will plug into the original radios harness. The other end of the adapter harness has loose wires with tinned ends which you connect to the new radio's harness, which as the same colors as the adapter wires.
  • Metra Model: 70-8901 is one adapter that I believe will work.
  • Scosche item Number: 16845632 is another adapter.
  • If you want to buy locally, Best Buy will probably have one or the other. If you want to buy on line, just do a search for the name and model numbers.

I want to permanently wire in a power source for a GPS or XM there a fuse block or some other place to make the power 'switched'. Also how do you get to it and are there standard ...

There are no fuses on the R1200RT. All electrical loads are controlled by a module called the ZFE or central body computer.

There is a plug-in on the main wire harness for a GPS and you can order an inexpensive repair plug from a BMW dealer to plug into it. The connector on the harness is tied off just below the ignition key/lock and has a small cover on it. This harness connector has 3 wires..... 12V switched, ground and a speed sensor pulse for a BMW GPS (don't need to use this pulse wire tho). Here is a pix. of the harness, but I can't seem to find the part number for it right now.

Need the radio code for my radio.

HONDA codes may be available here

You will require the car VIN number and Radio serial Number

If they cannot provide your code then you will have to try your HONDA Main Dealer .....or a Decode Service who will plug in a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM)

CLICK HERE for your vehicles full service manual. If you are cutting wires.
Be warned your vehicle has a factory amplifier installed, and needs to be bypassed to hear the speakers if you are just wiring behind the dash.
Metra makes a harness you install on the aftermarket radio, then simply plug into the vehicle's harness.
All the wires are labeled for easy installation.

70-9220 is the metra part number. Click on the number to see an eBay auction.

I need a wire harness diagram

If you could tell the brand and model number I might be able to help. A picture of the receptacle at the back of the radio where the plug goes in would help too. If you can't add a picture, then a discription might be enough (number of pins, number of rows, etc.) .

With this specific Pioneer model you need a brain for it ti function. You will be spending a good amount of money on all of the cords and brain. If you would like to do that, go to and type in your model number. every cord and accessory you will need will be listed there. This specific model has an optional navigation and tv tuner. Also for RCA outputs you will need another harness.
