Blank Monitor

I have had my monitor for a few years and all of a sudden, I get a BLANK screen. The green light is on, but no one is at home. I can see an image for about a second and then nothing. If I cut the power on and off, I see an image for a second then gone again. What is wrong with my monitor? Repair or replace??

i too have this problem its on a xerox XA7 19"...its just won't stay on for more than a couple of seconds although a very faint ghost image is visible if you look at it from a certain angle...after repeated switching on and off i eventually get the screen to stay on but it is frustrating to say the least and not a solution exactly. i think its outside warranty at exactly 2 yrs old- am i screwed?? any thoughts much app

- unfortunately i don't have another computer to try the monitor on or another monitor to try with the computer, that would have been my first port of call... i have read on another forum that it could be something to do with the drivers/OS...i recently did a software security update (Mac OS X) and wondered whether it could be that which has created the problem although i can't be sure if they occurred simultaneously. if so could there be a  solution to this? can i revert to the OS state pre-update to check? i think i am bust on the warranty but the screen is nearly £200 cheaper now anyway so will probably just replace it if i can't eliminate the problem any other way.  again any help much app

Same Problem

-   The monitor becomes blank, and if i switched it on and off OR unplugged then plugged the data cable, it works for few seconds then blank again. -   tonysameh

-   Got the same problem and plugged another screen on th computer and everything works, so it's not the computer.  And I don't think it's because of an software security update on the Mac OS because the I have two of the same screen.  One on my Mac, wich is updated frequently and still work, and it's the one on my PC that went blank. Guess I'll buy a new one!  They are cheaper now plus the trouble and time to have it repair is not worth it.

-   Hi NetworkMagic,

Not a good idea.

I just had a similar problem to those above. Had a monitor - a BENQ FP71G+S for a few years with no problem. One day the monitor was on (green light) but no picture. I tried soft off and on with light changing from green to amber and back but no picture or 'no connection' message. Saw this on the forum and tried it on my wife working PC and then her LG monitor which was working failed to startup (same symptoms).

It was obvious that the original faulty BENQ monitor had shorted out the on board Video card on my PC and in trying to test it on hers (to determine if it was the card or the monitor) I then shorted out her PCs onboard Video card!

Luckily she has a second video card installed on her PC - which I am, using at the moment on her machine to write this to the forum.

DO NOT test potentially faulty monitor on a working PC as this may result in 2 non-working PCs and a faulty Monitor to boot!

I am now looking for a new monitor and a new video card to get my PC back up and working....

-   When i swich my xerox XA7 19inches monitor on without connecting it to the system unit, the xerox display comes alright followed by the no signal message and after that the blue power light flashes. But when it's connected to the system unit, the xerox image comes followed by the xp boot screen for a second and the screen become blank. But when i cut the power of the monitor and on it again the image does come again and the monitor remain blank. What is the problem of my monitor.-   jneretion

Try your monitor on another computer, just to make sure it's the monitor and not a video adapter problem in the computer. It may be possible to fix it if you can find a reliable computer or TV service shop nearby. However, the cost may not be worth it for a 2-year old monitor. Unfortunately, the best solution is probably to buy a new one. : (
