Question about Whirlpool GGW9250PL Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Whirlpool ggw9250pwg how much flame should I see. I have had too partialy close the main gas valve in order for the flame too stay lit. I believe it is the high limit thermostat that might be the problem. I tested it by un-screwing the sensor and moving it away from the flame. The flame came on and stay's on. As soon as I reconnect it to the tube it comes on only for 15-30 sec at most and turns off. The flame goes all the way through the tube and goes upwards into the duct a bit. Is this to much Flame? This all started when we moved and i installed it in our new house. what I have now done is partialy closed the supply line valve to limit the flame size in order to get some kind of heat to dry my clothes. It was taking uo to 2 hours to dry a regular size load. Please contact me at Thanks Ken LaBruzzi

Flame on gas dryer comes on but does not stay lit?

one of 3 issues,1st-the high limit or cycling thermostat could be weak and opening 2nd-the radient sensor eye can be bad or dirty, try cleaning first, both of these are on the burner tube side, 3rd-the gas valve boost and secondary coils could be weak and not holding the gas valve open to let the gas flow, these coils are on the gas valve top body

Dryer runs fine but does not heat

Check that the pilot light is lit and flame kicks on when dryer is activated. If no flame, then check gas valve. If only pilot remains lit but does not increase when dryer is activated, then you could have a bad coupler or sensor or circuit problem which would have to be tested with a voltmeter and/or test light.

Flame does not stay lit

check the vent hose first...sounds like it is shutting off from the sensor that watches for that. It might also be the coils on the gas valve are going out.

I have a whirlpool gas dryer that the flame only stays lit for about a minute then goes out and wont relight. Can you tell me whats wrong? The dryer is less than 4yrs. old

the initial light is a test have either a faulty therm sensor locxated in the unit on the exaust tube looks black or occasionly white has a resistor in the middle of it the other common problems include in order are the set of coils on the gas valve replace as a pair also cheaper to buy as a pairand than a bad ignightor may glow but could still be faulty if you have a clamp on amp meter should pull no less than 3.2 amps any less its no good and wont open the gas valve if these dont work for you i have the next things to check

Intermittant flame, ignitor function is good, all other functions are as designed, timer ,tumble etc.

The pilot light flame would sometimes get very small and keep going out. This was usually because the pilot orifice was getting dirty and was partly plugged. The pilot orifice must be cleaned out when the flame becomes too small to light the main burner. You can blow air through the pilot assembly to help clean it out, don't use something metal in the pilot orifice hole or you risk enlarging the pilot gas feed hole and the pilot light may be too BIG. If your pilot flame keeps "going out", chances are you will need to replace the pilot latch do make sure the vent hood flapper is closing ok and no outside air blowing in is effecting the pilot flame.
This is a thermocouple that sensed the heat from the pilot flame and kept a small amount of gas flowing to allow the pilot light to stay lit. If you followed the instructions ( usually found inside the small access door on the front bottom ) on how to re-lite your pilot when it goes out and the flame will not stay on, replace the pilot latch assembly.

Please accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Gas dryer not heating properly

This sounds like the flame sensor is bad to me.

If it does not work properly, the unit will shut off for safety. The machine assumes that the burner did not light and rather than run gas into your house, it shuts off. It may try to start a certain number of times and then shut off.

You may be able to remove and clean it (flame sensor) lightly with a scotch brite pad and it may work properly again.

Otherwise it will need replacement.

This is a very common problem and the part is probably in stock.

Post a comment on your progress as this solution is likely to be useful to many people.

The problem is not the gas valve.

SDG3606AWW Gas dryer will not dry

Your problem could be the gas valve coil packs, there are 2 coils that open the valve for the gas and after they heat up they could then fail and you have no gas.

No hot air

If you have a pilot light (small flame) you can try to re-light it by turning the knob on the gas valve to the pilot position and pushing the knob down while lighting the pilot, you may have to hold the knob down for up to 30 seconds before releasing it. The pilot should stay lit and then turn the knob to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit or the main burner will not light it could be the gas valve or the temperature sensor.

Gas dryer with no heat

check the ignition might be a glo-bar element or a maintained high voltage spark module. once there is a pilot a flame rod or a millivolt generator opens the main valve for fire.
