When I try to reconfigure the modem to provide new ISP information, the browser goes to an "error" page instead of the configure set-up page. I've already tried typing in http://3com.oc.lanmodem and . Any suggestions?

Try resetting your router to it's factory defaults, check if you have a straight ethernet cable from your computer to the router, configure your network settings on the computer to automaticly aquire a ip address. After you've checked these points and you still have a limited connection post your router make and model.

Resetting the router is most of the time done by pressing a small switch hidden behind a little hole on the back of the router with a paperclip for a few seconds.

This usually means that your network is connected but your computer can't obtain an IP address or default gateway from the ISP (Internet Service Provider) or router. Without an IP address, your computer cannot communicate on the network.

Limited Connection Error

A limited connection on a Windows PC usually means that there is no connection to the internet on that segment. That is if you connect to the printer via a network switch or LAN. Newer printers can act as a DHCP server/router assigning IP addresses to LAN clients. It has no impact on your LAN if you do not want or need a connection to the internet. However if you want to access the internet from this PC I suggest you get a separate router and use that as the DHCP server on your LAN. Connect the PC and the printer to the router and disable the DHCP server on the printer. Also make sure that all devices (PCs and printer) are using the router as the default gateway. Once again if you don't need an internet connection the limited connection shouldn't worry you.

I dont know how to get wireless internet

Check the ADSL or cable modem status light. If it is solid green, it indicates that your ADSL/cable modem has a good connection. If the light is off, check modem's physical connection.

Verify that the Internet light on your wireless router is solid or blinking green. It indicates a good connection and correct wiring.

When done, log in to the web interface of your router device and check if it can obtain the IP address from your ISP or not.

If you see, the router is not obtaining the IP address. It can happen due to various reasons. Contact your ISP and ask for the details including username, password for PPPoE etc. and try to connect to the Internet again afterwards.

You may also need to configure the default gateway settings also. To configure your router device as the default gateway, reboot your PC. When done, open Command Prompt, type 'ipconfig/all' and hit Enter. Check Default Gateway

If you are still unable to browse the Internet, ping your router's connection to the PC.

The Request timed out error can occur due to two things: (1). incorrect physical connection between your router device and the PC or (2) incorrect wireless network setup & configuration. Recheck and correct the Ethernet connection between your PC and the router device.

When done, check back if you can browse the Internet or not.

When I try and go onto the web browser it says "The system memory is damaged." When I test the connection settings it goes red then green then back to red and I get an error code: 052200-1.

hi there,
this error code indicates that there is a problem with your firewall settings on your router not allowing your dsi to connect to the internet, while your dsi can connect to your router it's not allowing it to access the internet. The best way to get to the firewall settings is to find out your router ip address. most routers have the ip, but to be sure from a pc click on start, in the search field enter cmd, and open up command prompt. in here type "ipconfig" and this should bring you up your computer ip and your routers, the router been the "default gateway" so whatever number is after the default gateway type this into your browser to access your routers settings. you may need to contact nintendo or your isp provider to help you change the settings here to allow your dsi to access the internet. The default port number the dsi uses is 8080, so perhaps your router is blocking this port number for some reason, and you need to unblock it. Hope this helps and best of luck with it.

I want to reconfigure this so xbox will work on second computer the second computer works but it will not automatically pick up xbox, I have disabled wireless and hit the reset button when I type in...

To configure the router you must connect to the router using a cable.

Ensure that IP is , and not for example.

If you are using a computer to configure the router, turn off the firewall.

You can find out router IP opening the command prompt (type CMD in run box) and typing ipconfig/all in the Dos command prompt.
Router IP will be indicated as default gateway.

HI! I bliv u are having some issue setting up ur router.. I will be more than glad to assist u. here are the steps u need to do:
1. connect the ethernet cable to port1 of the router and the other end to the lan port of your computer..
3. pull up ur browser then type at the url: or u can check the routers default gateway by right clicking the network icon on the lower right of your task bar and click on status and it will show the ip address of the computer, subnetmask and default gateway, the default gateway is the routers ip address, once u type in to the url, it will ask u the username and password, by default the username is admin and the password is 1234 or just leave it blank
4. it will show the setup page of the router and go to the wireless settings, from that page it will give you an option to set the wireless security like, wep, wpa, wpa2, tkip, select on wpa2 and tkip then set the password, then from your desktop computer or laptop that is accessing the wireless connection, select the ssid or the network name of your router then it will ask for the password, just type in and connect and you should connect to your wireless network

Router problem. Netcomm NP740n

you can always go into the router by entering the default gateway ip.

Worst case scenario - do a hard reset on the router to fix it.

Laptop wireless connection

Hi .

LImited access no internet service means that Authentication of your wireless network is not up.

You must know what your wireless encryption is and you can check your manual/guide for your router or gateway on how to access it.If you dont have it anymore than you can access your router by using your desktop computer w/c im sure is hardwired to your router.

By using your desktop we need to look for you default gateway by ff the steps below.

For win xp:

Start > run > cmd .... on the Dos window type in ipconfig /all

it'l then show your default gateway . It would look like this .192.168.xxxx

If you have your default gateway , w/c is your routers physical address Open your favorite browser and on the address bar type in your default gateway. It would route you to your routers page. Most routers ask for your username and password. When youre able to access your router you'l have a chance now to view or change your wireless settings.

Hope that helps. Pls let us know if you have further questions or clarifications.

Good Luck .

Cant connect to dns server

When attemptin to attach to a wireless router

Either the SSID's match between your router and wireless adapter or your router is unencrypted and is attached to by the default configuration that uses the SSID it finds of an unencrypted network.

Now the two machines can talk to each other

If you request a dynamic IP address from the router it's DHCP can pass to your wireless adapter a various pieces of information including an IP Address, subnet mask, default gateway (the routers address in this case), adn DNS addresses (optional)

If you have static addressing in the wireless adapter you must provide to the wireless adapter a IP Address (NOT in the DHCP range of the router and not matching any other device attacned to the network, the same subnet mask as the router, the gateway address of the router and DNS addresses.

The first three of these allow you to communicate with the roouter and establish connectivity with it.

If the router's lan address is and subnet mask is then all addresses of devices connected to the router lan must begin 192.168.0.?. IF the DHCP server in the router can assign - as dynamic addresses. We can assign - as static IP addresses each to one and only one device. There are more potential static addresses above but we will ignore them for this discussion.

The communication band (A, B, G, N) sable by for the router and wireless adapter must have at least one in common

Both the router and wireless adapter must have encryption set the same (WEP or WPA with the same passphrases and options)

If Mac Filtering is enabled on the router the MAC address of the wireless adapter must be loaded into the routers table of permitted MAC addresses.

If there is an error in the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway?, encryption, or Mac Filtering, mismatched bands the wireless connection will fail as indicated with limited or no connectivity.

Even if all that works you still are not assured access to the internet.

The DNS addresses and default gateway are needed to be correct along with all the ISP's interface requirements for the wan or modem side of the router to be able to access the internet as and achieve the expected results such as accessing google.

If you would like to work through this step by step we can get you connected however I cannot see what you are doing and anything you do or change that I don't know about until we are done is likely to confuse the process. Please reply to this message if you wish for me to continue to assist.

Setup Wizard won't appear

Kate I first suggest reviewing this link and determining the model of the router.

Second did you buy the router new or used because a used router may not be at the default address you expect. Assuming you can access the router with your computer and wireless card -- open a command window (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and type ipconfig and press enter. If you cannot connect using the wireless use a wired connection to the router ports to get the gateway address as indicated above using ipconfig. There may be multiple connections however we are looking for one with an IP Address and a Default Gateway probably like 192.168.?.? where the first question mark is the same and the last are different. Use the default gateway address to access your router instead of the default If the password has been changed meaning the router logon fails for you with the default password, the manufacturers documentation may describe a reset process to return the router to factory default including the password to allow you access (note the gateway address will also revert to the manufacturers default requiring a reboot or ipconfig /reset and ipconfig /renew to reconnect the computer to the router after the change.
