Usually motherboard either works or doesn't work. It won't make computer runs slow. Your computer runs slow mostly because of low memory, low diskspace available, driver issue, virus, or spyware. If you surf the web a lot, chance is your computer got spyware or malware. Install a free malware program and use it to clean up your laptop first to see if the problem is improving.
This can be because of virus infection, there are so many applications on your start up and low virtual memory. But my best suggestion is for you to run a virus scan on your computer so it can detect viruses, worms and malware that you get in surfing the internet or by just sharing files. If this will not work you need to re-install your OS so your computer would be like brand new.
There could be several different things causing this. It could be a virus, malware or spyware or something totally different.
Start with the obvious. If you run a virus scan regularly and know you are not infected then miss that out. Next run a spyware/malware scan if you don't have a programme to do this then download install and run malwarebytes you can get it free from here.
They may have reinstalled the OS (XP or Vista I don't know which one you have). If you have the HP disk...you should be able to install the software again. If not go to there site and download the software. Here is the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=390423
More memory can always help. How much Ram is installed currently? Also, do you run any anti virus or anti spyware programs? Malware has been known for making machines crawl. Ram on that laptop can be upgraded. 2GB Standard 4GB Max DDR2 SDRAM SO DIMM 200-pin
