Question about Kicker CVR12 Car Subwoofer

1 Answer

Intermittent Subwoofer I'm on my 3rd CVR12 hooked up to a kicker 550.3 Amp.  All of a sudden, this sub now cuts in and out.  It works fine on low volumes and I've not made any adjustments to the amp settings recently.  I've noticed that if I push on the basket just a touch, the sub stays working fine at normal volume, but as soon as I take my hand off, it cuts out again.  I don't smell that lovely burnt coil smell, but it seems as if it'll be coming soon.  Obviously something isn't right, but the first two subs were older models of the same kicker...and I had issues with those as well.  I believe I wired this down to 1ohm..would have to check.  Any suggestions?

The wire from the coil to post is probably severed.you might have to take the dust cap off..

Logic soundlab cpx1400 need to wire to a kicker cvr 15

Hello discrete01,

The Kicker model number 07CVR122 has dual 2 ohm voice coils, and can be wired for either 1 ohm or 4 ohms. Model number 07CVR124 has dual 4 ohm voice coils and can be wired for either 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

Kicker's wiring page is here: http://www.kicker.com/dvc_wiring

If you have the version with 2 ohm voice coils, you want to use the 2nd diagram for a final load of 4 ohms to the amp. The 1 ohm load is too low for the amp and will cause it to overheat and possibly fail. If you have the 4 ohm version, use the wiring shown in the 3rd diagram which is a perfect match for the amp.

Hope this helps.

Best amp for Kicker Sub

Hello dalex7,

The Kicker 08ZX400.1 would be a great amp for your subwoofer. It will work into a 4ohm load with no problems.

But you can buy an amp with more power, looks better, has a smaller footprint, and cost less than the 400.1. I'd look at the Alpine MRP-M500. Take a look at it here at Crutchfield. The M500 is also easy to install, runs cool, and is very efficient.

Hope this helps.

3 kicker CVR12 Car Subwoofer to a amp tsunami 1100 watts digital i wanna if i can bridge the amp to the 3 speakers and how can i connet the wires from the poss to nev ????? please help PePe

The only way you can do this is if the amp has a min of three channels. you will need to bridge each speaker seperately. With that much power, attempting to bridge all three subs together will cause the amp to over heat and possibly blow. email me the specs of the amp and subs and i will give you the best advise quigley1313@yahoo.com

Subwoofers not bumpin, amp is still on

Check to make sure there is a good input to the amp. Next check each sub to another source to make sure they are good. Look for any reset on the amp.
