If you have a Windows XP/Vista/Vista64/7 Disc, have your Laptop boot from it, This will require a re instillation of Windows, but will fix your laptop right up, and if you don't have one, they are cheaper than laptops and will save you money. Plus, they can be reused on the same computer.

Gateway computer power light flashes before booting up.

Hmm. I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with pressing the button. It sounds more like a failing power supply or lack of current for startup. Did you make sure you plugged the power into the video card power connector (if it has one)? I know it worked ok at first but a heavier load can cause older or under-rated power supplies to fail soon after. Just a thought.

My Gateway Gt 5220 will not turn on. Technicaly it does turn on ex: hard drive spin processor click couple time power brick and processor fan spins hard drive light flickers couples time and cd drive will...

sounds like your system is booting up and running due to the hold power shutdown procedure. you might try replacing the video card or adding one if your video is integrated.

Gateway t 1625 laptop not booting

If u can, try to reformat it, reason i say this simple solution is because u already had the laptop looked at professionally, and due to you're laptop being stuck at the windows screen, i see this happen on HDD swaps a lot. The HDD needs to be repair-formatted or fully reformatted to talk to the new mobo when switched out, try this if all else fails, i personally think giving this simple solution may fix the boot up issue, but do make sure ur friend who looked at your laptop hadn't reset ur C MOS and may of not reconfigured it, this may also be the main cause of boot up troubles so make sure everything looks fine in ur BIOS. Gabriel will have a more proper solution than this but i believe by doing this it may help u bypass ur loading issue

My Gateway went black screen no lights what happened

Hi flady_98,

You don't specify model, so what follows is fairly generic. If you can provide more details, perhaps I can too.

If it's booting (start-up chimes/sounds), then I'd suspect the display (either the back-light, or perhaps the inverter/controller circuit board). Backlights require (in my experience) replacement of the display, likely more than the value of the laptop if it was a refurb (~$500 and up in my exp.). Inverter boards are less spendy, but you have to get the right one, and get it installed (how tech-savvy are you?)

If it's not booting at all, (don't hear the hard drive spooling up, etc), then we start looking at power supply issues and go from there. But I really need more details.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know, and include as much detail as possible (you should be able to load digital pictures onto this space using the toolbar above).

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly.

Thanks in-advance for using Fixya.com,

Jon

Booting

Has the fan been replaced? If not then the laptop will power itself off to protect from overheating. The fan is like a switch in the loop. Like old Xmas lights. One not working then none will work.
