Hi,

ALL machines will require lubrication at some point. It will require covers to be removed however. Apart from the cover over the needle bar / presser foot area, I dont recommend you try taking them off as without knowledge of exactly how, you can break the retaining clips. Cleaning out the lint REGULARLY is very important - you can use a vacuum with a crevice tool.

So, remove the 'lamp' cover and needle plate, vacuum out thoroughly. Apply a drop in total to the length of the needle bar, a small amount on the presser foot shaft.Remove the black plastic shuttle, clean around it, apply a SMIDGE of oill to the 'track' on the underside of it. Thats about all you will have access to. Use proper sewing machine oil - NOTHING ELSE!

If you sew a lot, get it serviced proffessionally - they will do the areas you can't access.

Good luck!

Oiling the janome sewing machine?

Follow the instructions in the manual, especially if it is a computerized machine. These machines require little, if any, oiling. Additional oiling can damage the machine.

Mechanical machines--use only fresh, good quality sewing machine oil. Gently wiggle the handwheel and apply a drop or two of oil every place that metal rubs against metal.

How do I oil my janome memorycraft 5500. No instructions in the manual

There are no instructions for oiling because your machine does not need periodic oiling. The machine has what is termed lifetime oil emitting bearings.

I'm having difficulty with mt Janome 6400. The bobbin will suddenly shift and stall everything. I can remove the bobbin and actually pull the bobbin case back, and sometimes I can sew for aw

look in your sewing machine manual, see if it mentions oiling your sewing machine, if it doesn't then the sewing machine could be a self oiling from the factory,,self oiling mean the part were put in oil for a period of time and they won't need oiling, the more you sew then the oil will be released to oil the parts automaticly. sounds like you may need a new bobbin case, did the problem start before the machine was serviced or after?
