Question about EliteGroup ECS G733 Notebook

Ecs g733 how does this thing come apart?

I bought a used g733 and it will not power up (no led). I think that there is a problem with the Adapter plug, but I can not get it apart. I removed the keyboard, button cover and all the exposed screws but the case top will not separate from the bottom. It seems to be attached in the center on the led side of the button cover hole. This was supposed to be sold as a customized laptop, but I can not find ANY internal or tech information on it.

WOW!! can't believe i found this, i've considered the laptop dead for the past 6 months as i contacted ECS and they said it would need a replacement MOBO, would have cost me around 300 euros to ship it, replace and ship it back, so i opted to buy a new laptop. so for me this is worth a try, thanks!!!!

I had the same problem like yours, but the only solution I can truely endorse is from Totit who suggested that inside the laptop, there is a 1500uF 6.3V capacitor among the others that is blown. As he said, if you know how to open up your lap top, there is a chance of fixing it. I just finished mine, and it works fine now. But disassembling G733 is not as easy as ABC. I learnt it step by step and partially from seeing how my friend - a former ECS pcb technician in the orient, who tried to help me to fix mine. Let me lead you through when I have more time in the days to come. Aparently no one here gave us better suggestions than Totit. I have once wrote to ECS, and you can guess what kind of "official" reply I could expect to receive.

Before doing the following, check that the power adaptor is providing you OCV20V.+/-, which should normally power up your laptop even when the battery is low.

    1. remove all visible screws, including that in the battery compartment, covered by label.

    2. remember that G733 uses 3 type of screw lengths. it is a good idea to mark down from where they were taken out, and keep them in a container.

    3. remove the keypad, as you already did.

    4. it is a good idea to remove hard drive and RAM as well.

    5. pull out the CD or DVD drive, which hocks up to the PCB.

    6. remove

    (can't add pics)

    6. remove the 2 U shape covers covering the screen hinges.

    7. pull the button cover toward back and lift.

    8. remove screws holding upper cover, button pcb and alloy chassis.

    9. remove the upper cover by squeeze and push/pull.

    10. remove all hidden screws under the 2 black tapes, and in the battery compartment.

    11. remove all screws holding the chassis, pcb, bottom cover.

    12. remove the screen, and all cable plugs(be careful).

    13. you are almost ready to take out the chassis, pcb, if not there yet.... the mic/earplug sockets, printer ports etc are still stopping you from clearing the chass+pcb, right?

    14. look into the pcb, you probably can find 4 or more 1500uF 6.3V capacitors. determine which are bad and replace them. these caps are commonly used in pc mother boards. if you have scrap pcs, find them.

    15. having looked at Totit's pic and my version of pcb, there is difference, but i am convinced that it is common to all ECS's G733 that the caps used are "weak".

    16. reverse the procedure when assembling.

    17. it is a good idea to mark down / take pictures of what you remove.

remark: the above is a 100% knock-down procedure. Before doing it, be sure that you are capable.

fyi: you might find that the BIOS battery is stupidly hidden behind the chassis. in other words, we need to do the same procedure again when changing battery. i modified my chassis, though i broke it in a hurry, but still i gain an easy access to the battery should my G733 survies the battery.

sorry for not able to upload you pics.

    good luck!

Check the back of the LT. You may have missed some screws that hold the Mobo to the chassis or the LCD hinges to the chassis.

Hi there.
The laptop has to be taken apart and a new power supply adapter that fits that model soldered on to the motherboard, you will also have to order the replacement parts first.
The keyboard will probably need replacing, the part number is underneath the keyboard so you will have to remove the keyboard to view it. You can get a power adapter socket from sites like ebay, you will have to search for this part by laptop make and model and is fairly inexpensive to purchase.
Replacing these components will give the laptop new life so if your confident with a soldering iron and know what to do around a laptop motherboard you know what parts to chase.
If you feel your not that confident, you have the option of phoning a reputable PC repair shop and ask them if they can do the repair on the power adapter instead of buying a replacement motherboard, if they can have it repaired by them and also maybe they can do you a deal on a replacement keyboard.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Yes, try replacing the power button assembly first and the heatsink assembly and fan before shelling out big bucks on a Mobo (which is probably pulled from another LT).
