I am having trouble with my dvd drive in my acer aspire 3610 notebook computer. I can hold it up to my ear and hear something happening when I put a disk inside however the computer does not seem to recognize this anymore. It used to till a few month ago and I am completly baffled by it.

DVD ROM won't open

Hi tashawenger,

I suggest that you power cycle your laptop. What I mean is that you shutdown the PC, disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery and hold down the power button for about a minute. Then afterwards reconnect the battery, AC adapter and power on the system. And try to open the drive before it boots up inside Windows.

If this doesn't work, I suggest that you reseat the optical drive (DVDROM), what this means is that you remove or disconnect the drive from the computer then put it back in, then try it again to see if it works.

If that doesn't work, I suggest that you already try running the computer's diagnostics program to check and see if the drive itself passes the diags. You may have to replace the drive if all these fail, since it will now be considered a mechanical problem.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)

Dvd/cd-rom not working

From the desktop, right click on My Computer and select Properties. In the System Properties, browse to the Hardware tab and select Device Manager.

In there, expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives and right click on the appropriate hardware and select Uninstall. Click on OK when prompted.

Reboot the computer. After entering the desktop environment, the computer should start installing the drivers for the DVD/CD-ROM automatically (after startup applications are registered).

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..

Acer 3610 - DVD-ROM Drive

If it doesn't work at all, go to My computer, right click>properties>device manager>hardware, then at the top you will see an icon that says(when you put the mouse over it) scan for new hardware. See it this shows the drive. You can also press F2 or DEL on boot up and highlight 'Standard CMOS Settings' and see if your drive is seen by the bios. You may have an option to press a key to detect all drives, or press enter on the 'secondary' line and see if it is recognised. If all this fails it may be that either the power connection to your drive has become detatched or the drive itself is faulty. Please rate this solution.
