Callers are not able to leave a message-they receive msg saying the voice has not been set up yet.
I had another answering machine, set it up, when calls came in, the caller was not able to leave messages. So I returned that machine, bought this GE one. Set it up, same problem, callers cannot leave messages. They get some message like-voice message has not been set up yet.
So I set up my original machine, still worked ok,but sometimes the messages were garbled. Same thing, same problem as above.
I called Bell Canada, they said I have nothing wrong with my line, their Call Answer is not on my line. I do not necessarily believe them, I believe there is something on my line blocking to go to my answering machine..
So I am asking for help. Anything you can say would be appreciated.
Normally the ring and the start time can be set up on the answering machine as you will need to check for the lowest ring time- 3 times which is good enough. This is possible on the most models and must be checked on this one -- the model is not specified.

New service may be interupting your phone answering machine with a digital one provided by them. Call your number to verify what system is answering your calls for you. Speak to your phone service provider for further clarification
This was a new phone I was using,& didn't realize I had voice mail on it. When it rang 2 times, it recorded the message before I answered on the 3rd. or 4th ring, giving me a dial tone. It is all fixed now.
Record Your Announcement
Before using this answering system, you
should record the announcement (up to
three minutes long) that callers will hear
when the system answers a call. If you
choose not to record an announcement,
the system answers with a pre-recorded
announcement: “HELLO. PLEASE LEAVE A
MESSAGE AFTER THE TONE.”
1 Press and hold a. When the
system beeps, speak toward the
microphone normally, from about nine
inches away. While you are recording,
the Message Window blinks .
To stop recording, release a.
The system automatically plays back
To review your announcement, press
and release a.
To erase your announcement and
return to the pre-recorded announcement,
press Dwhile your announcement is
Callers can skip the announcement by
GE Digital Messaging System ~ Voice/Time/Day stamp
1a] press and hold down STOP/set button and wait for promps.....
ie. press NEXT to change Day stamp and then SET to pick.
ie. press NEXT to change Hour and SET to pick.
ie. press NEXT to change Minute and SET to pick.
1b] press NEXT to pick 1minute allowance recording for recieving messages coming in, or 2 minutes or 3 minutes or 4 minutes. This machine only has 1/2 hour of recording time, so maybe you can 'tell' -record- that and let incoming callers know they have only minutes and machine will automatically shut off and cut them off [hang-up] on them.
2] press and hold down Greeting button and follow promps to change the answering machine voice promps to your own voice. Machine will automatically PLAY BACK your voice, if you don't like what you hear, press and hold down Greeting button again and try again.
~ hope all above helps.
Is the OGM distorted on the callers phone or on the same speaker the incoming messages are heard?
If it's just the speaker, then the speaker itself or the amplifier drving the speaker is defective.
If the OGM is distorted for callers, then the signal processing before the amplifiers is defective.
More than likely it's a replace not a fix. The speaker unit itself will be very difficult to source. Maybe a very well stocked Radio Shack. Any electronics will likely be in a (custom?) integrated circuit.
From the Manual:
Before using your new answerer, you should record a greeting
(the announcement callers hear when your answering system
answers a call). If you don't record a greeting, callers hear a
default greeting which says, "Record message after tone."
When recording the greeting you should be about 6 inches
from the unit. Eliminate as much background noise as
1. Prepare your greeting.
Sample Greeting: Hi, this is (use your name here). I can?t
answer the phone right now, so please leave your name,
number, and a brief message after the tone, and I?ll get back
to you. Thanks.
2.Hold down the GREETING button. After the tone, you have
30 seconds to record your greeting.
3.Release the GREETING button when you finish. The greeting
will playback automatically.
NOTE: Your recording time should not be less than 2 seconds.
Otherwise the unit will return to the default greeting.
