we have the same problem...as always maytag said it was out of warranty. We had problems with our other maytag front loader. We paid for repairs to the electronics then found out that they had a lawsuit and they were paying for repairs. We called maytag during their lawsuit and they never told us about the lawsuit or problems. Now we purchased another model (TL) and problems again.

dh1200s seems to be right on the money with the FAV6800AW. The needle bearing lube did the trick so far. I did it without removing the tub. Tilted the machine back and used a little step to support it. Just cut the wrist a little lifting the tub around to get a socket on the pulley bolt. 10mm for the pulley tightness bolt at the motor, 3/8 in for the pulley bolt. It's running now and made it past 10 minutes for the spin cycle. I don't understand the lack of lube causing 'out of balance,' but I don't need to. Think I'll throw a celebration. DH1200S is my new favorite person.

We had the same problem... Hello therablupy… I’m glad this worked out for ya. I believe in “Pay It Forward”. I have learned so much from this and other forums. I feel bad for folks that can’t take on this maintenance fix and junk the machine. About the clutch, I haven’t figured out yet how it engages the spinner shaft to rotate the wash basket. As you saw the clutch is a spring wrap affair. I believe as the motor turns CCW in spin mode it compresses the spring and engages I believe the spinner shaft to rotate the wash basket CCW. From what have read at other forums when clutch fails to operate correctly the tumblers begin to rotate also in spin mode and you go into an unbalance condition. Maybe a more senior forum member could shed some light on this. Im at 30+ loads of different size and wash cycles and continue to work OK.

Maytag Dependability yeah right. I had problems with my Neptune ever since I purchased it from Sears. We just recently replaced the pump which I was told by a lecal mechanic that specializes on Maytag products was the problem with this washer not completely finishing the spin cycle and draining out all of the water. This help for a while but now the washer is doing the same thing again code DC. I had a GE washer prior to this one that I had purchased in the early 80's and it lasted me 21 years. The Neptune lasted 1 year before we started having problems with it. Its almost criminal that they charge so much for this washer and its really a piece of sh......

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley hub, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove clutch pulley hub. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley hub and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives the spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley hub to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 3.5 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found it online and I believe you can order it in PDF format from Maytag. Good luck!

I just went thru my 10th load of a mix of light, medium heavy loads and all work fine no unbalance errors (DC/UC). Doesn’t fix the tangle problem :) Prior to this fix I could only run the washer with no clothes in it to complete a cycle with no dc/uc error codes.

Hello donna0720 and Guest of 1/30/09,

See this post to turn on the drain pump in service mode to dump any excess water in the tub if drain pump/drain line are not clogged. This procedure is in the troubleshooting guide that should be stored in your machine console.

If you think you can do steps 1 & 2 in the next post it will help nail down if you have clutch issue with your FAV6800A. I own the machine and I suspect a clutch malfunction. This would be good info to pass on to your repair service along with Model number and Serial number of your machine if you decide to repair.

I feel the machine is DIY repairable if you or a someone you know have basic mechanical skills and you can tolerate the down time to fix. My issue was dry bearings in clutch pulley hub. I re-lubed clutch and I was back in service, 30+ loads (I want to stress the fix) since mid Dec 08 with no dc/UC errors. Good Luck to both of you.

    Hello groko,

I agree this is a Maytag design issue but there is no recall for the clutch. I’m not a cheerleader for Maytag, I’m in the same boat as many other folks who own the FAV6800A/FAV9800A machine. The good news is, this is a very easy fix regardless if it’s a soft or hard failure of the clutch. If you have basic mechanical skills, change a spark plug in the lawn mower type skills you can perform a DIY fix. Most times you can remove the clutch and clean up/re-lube the clutch roller bearings and full service can be restored for the cost of a can of WD-40 and a light coat of bearing grease. This is a 30 min job for most DIY folks once they review the work process. I refer to this as a soft failure of the clutch. A hard failure would be a broken clutch spring or clutch roller bearings that can’t be cleaned up to restore reliable service without a clutch replacement. I have performed this maintenance on my machine and restored normal service with a clean up/re-lube of the clutch roller bearings. I have researched clutch replacement and found that this clutch will work and is working in my FAV6800AWW series 17 machine. I recently purchased and installed this clutch in my machine. I wanted to see if there was a lower cost clutch replacement out there. I have several wash loads on this clutch and I feel it’s a winner, but it needs the test of time. I just had to remove the top piece left side of pic. My original clutch did not have this piece as part of the clutch assembly. My Washer S/N starts with 17 for the series. If you feel you can and want to try a DIY fix next time just shout out if you need some help. I and others will try to help. Just curious, do you know why two clutch failures in two years? Are you leaking any water onto the clutch maybe a slight tub seal leak? My first and only clutch failure took place on 12/08, the machine was purchased in 7/05. My original solution is posted In this thread.

    Cleaned up clutch roller bearings.

    Clutch spring intact not broken.

    Assembled re-lubed Old Clutch FAV6800AWW.

New Clutch 25001169 $52.44 delivered to the house, installed and running just had to remove top bearing, light green assembly. My Original clutch did not have this additional bearing assembly. Sorry for the poor pix, I installed this clutch before reviewing the shot.

Wow we are going through the hell right now with this machine. This is our second fav6800aww because we had Sears replace it 4 years ago when we first bought it because it was spitting out DC errors within the first 30 days of owning the machine. Now we have been without our machine for 2 weeks now. Two Sears repair techs were unable to fix the machine. It is not going into Spin cycle and stops at 12 minutes and then spits our DC codes. They replaced the clutch and then they reinstalled the clutch today because the first tech installed it wrong. As soon as the repair tech left today and we tried to run a load it stopped at 12 minutes and wouldn't go into the spin cycle. We called Sears and they couldn't locate the tech and they are going to send someone out in two days! Sears service is HORRIBLE. I will never buy from Sears ever again and I will never buy another Maytag ever again. I cleaned the screens on the water lines as suggested above and now we are able to restart the machine when it fails the spin cycle so at least the load can complete, but this has been a nightmare!!! If Sears cannot fix this machine after 4 attempts they must give me a new one as per my contract. Good thing we got that service contract even though they have been useless!!!!

Get rid of the washer! I know that sounds a little crazy but we have the same problem. My husband too fixed the clutch first but then it completely burned up. Thinking we knew what part needed to be replaced we bought a new clutch for $200 and today it started to just spin itself with 26 minutes left, over and over and over and it will not complete the cycle. I am done with it, we have only had it for 3 years but we just got back from Home Depot and our new LG comes in on Wednesday. They take the old piece of junk away for .01 which to me is a BARGAIN!

I dont know if this will help but we had the same problems. I disconnected the water lines and found both screens clogged ( you can use a pair of plyiers grab and twist them out ) I cleaned them out and I can hear a lot more water flow. The machine is working now no more dc or uc codes.

Need a little more information. You explanation is too short for troubleshooting. Could you supply the model and serial number. This will help in the process.

The only hard reset to the Control Board is to unplug your FAV6800A from the 120VAC service outlet then reconnect.

I feel this will not clear your machine issue. What do you mean by reset the program of our maytage neptune TL?

Code OP means lid is open. If it really isn't, then the problem is with the switch that sense whether the lid is shut or not. Could be bad switch or bad connection.
