Scanner Error 5 It says turn off and then on, this does not help. It makes a terrible grinding noise and the scanner bulb does not move.
The flat bed scanner assy is bad and needs to be replaced. The part number is Q3948-60191. Hp recomends taking it to a repair center for replacement

I had/have the same problem. Actually my friend has a same printer:-( So i was able to change the stepping motor and it actually solved the problem. The only problem I recently have the HP service station would change the whole scanning bed for a fortune:-( At the same time they are not willing to sell a stan-alone stepping motor so I have been haunting for one since ever..

Looks you have to replace Stepping Motor, m35sp-9t. Problem is where to find?

Not remplaced now,,, check de wire to connect the flattbed scanner to other side.... a fix the same problem only move the wire ... check this option before buy the flat bed

HP COLOR LASERJET 2820 IS THE WORST PRINTER ever made.
I have the same problem, with the scanner, and sometimes with the printer freezing. for the scanner to work i have to connect the usb and for the printer i have to connect the cat 5. This configuration work for a while until it start freezing up again. I called the HP Support and they blaming the software issue, i was told told to reinstall the drivers. It works for awhile, and I have the same issue all over again. So I called the HP Support and I was on hold for an Hour in half till someone finally answer. And when someone finally answer, they told me the same exact thing. Turn off the printers, restart your PC, and reinstall your software.
I think that this particular model that i have is a lemon, but I been calling them again and let their technician deal with.
