It will not print in black and white, only colour, but it also tells me that the colour cartridge is nearly finished, when I just put a new one in.

Try cleaning the contact points of the cartridge itself and the unit that holds the cartridge with alchol. If still not printing try nossle cleaning from your printer properties.

just take out the colour cartridge from the printer, then you will be able to print.

Get a syringe, remove the needle, remove the ink cartridge and use the syringe to blow air GENTLY through the hole the cartridge connects to. Make sure you have a cleaning cloth to remove ink dislodged from pipe connected at the print head, do this gently to remove any obstruction and there should not be too much mess and can easily be cleaned up.

I just install brand new original cartridges, black do not print but all the colors are working find. The display shows the cartridges install but after few clean nozzle and print alingnment now is indicating low ink. I just perform the cleaning and the adjustment twice how could that happen?
I just bought this Lexmark x5495. I have not been able to use it because the black and white doesn't print. The color prints perfectly. I checked the cartridge-brand new and tape remove, properly installed on the left.
