GE TV Model 35GT695 - Problem Turning TV ON

Last couple of weeks, the TV will not turn on. After pushing the ON button, sometimes couple of hours later, the TV turns on by itself. Once ON, it will continue working until I turn it off. The next day, I have the same turn ON problem!

Any ideas to what is wrong and how to fix the problem?

(This is a GE TV model 35GT695)

Thanks

    Hi:
I took the circuit board out and did not find any cracked soders or bulging/leaking capacitors. I removed some dust buildup from the circuit board using forced air, put it back on and am still having the same problem!

I turn the TV on and nothing happens. About an hour later, it comes on by itself. When it comes on, I can turn it on/off using the remote or the manual switch and it works fine. When I leave the set off for a long time, it will not come back on right away.

    Any other ideas?

Can you specify which is the most likely bad capacitor. See attached picture if that helps.

I already paid fixya.com to work with and diagnose the problem with my TV. Now you are asking me to pay someone else to help me out with the TV problem.

Unless you can provide me with a test prosidure to diagnose and fix the problem with my TV, I will want to exercise my right to request refund for what I paid Fixya.com

    Thanks

I can get hold of an ESR meter. Would you please specify where is the start up cercuitry and which are the most problamatic capacitors that may be at fault?

If the problem is a solder crack, why would the TV not turn on intilally, and then after about an hour, it turns on by itself?

If there is a solder crack, then we have an open circuit and TV should not come on regardless! Do you agree?

Sounds like a solder problem. Look over the circuit board real good ffor cracked solder joints especially near the flyback and your Horizontal output and regulator transisitors. Could also be a defective capacitor look for signs of bulging or leaking capacitors.

I feel you have a bad capacitor, often they show no visible sign of being weak, The only solution is to check the capacitors in the start up circuitry with an ESR meter thats the only way to find a bad capacitor without removing them from the circuit

I have found a program that will help you diagnose your set its a CTC 187 Chassis. This program is really user friendly you click on your symptons and it shows you what to check. You can purchase the program at the following link for 25.99 its called CTC187 under the programs catagory. If you purchase it they offer unlimited support. and if you return to the site after purchase they will email it to you with instructions on how to obtain your support.Just click on the contact us kink and provide your email address. This is some good software for diagnosing the CTC 187 Chassis which is what you have. Hope this helps. heres the link.

I am not asking you to pay any one else for a solution. Rca is famous for solder cracks. Without access to an esr meter there is really no way to check capacitors.I offerd the software cause I know it is useful and others have used it. do you have the meter to test horizontal output or the voltage regulators. That would be my next suggestion. If those check out to be ok then its time to check diodes and resisitors in the start up circuitry.

I am compiling a list of the items in the power circuit for you to check. But to answer your question on solder cracks, no a set with bad solder joints is hard to start when cold after electricity is present it tends to bridge the bad solder and the set will tend to work untill its shut off and allowed to cool off again. Thats why I first thought of bad solder joints.

On your chassis there are 2 big ICs number U1001 and the other is fenced in by a metal box number U3101. Check pin number 42 for 5VOn U3101 Also check the emiter of Q4401 H.O.T. (Horizontal output transistor) For 145 Volts. Use the foil side of H.O.T. heatsink as chassis ground. This will start to pinpoint if a IC is faulty or if your start up circuitry is malfunctioning. Be very careful that your probe does not slip off the component youre testing as this could cause a surge and destroy other components.

Cant find auxillary channel

You will need a connection to an aux,a VCR, DVD etc. The TV will recognize and display. You may need an original RCA TV remote with an aux button. RCA universal remotes will also sometimes have this. Or in this case press your remote button to 00. Sometimes this will work, or press channel search while playing an aux device, Thanks for listening, Sincerely, Matt.

NO SOUND ON GE 46GW947 TV

Look first to see if the set has the GUIDE PLUS LOGO ON THE FRONT OF THE CABINET OR in the menu, if so unplug set and plug it back to get sound back.

Things to check that are easy, look first:

Does set have sound with a DVD etc connected to a rear input?

Does set have a setting for turning the speakers off or to external speaker hookup?

last might be a actual audio circuit problem but I have never seen that in this model.

I have the same model and the same problem... I am told the power display board is is the issue and may need to replacing. New board costs around $80,or a bad capacitor depending on your paitence.

Older GE television sound trouble

The first thing to check is the push button assembly maybe the volume down button has been pushed in too hard/far and is always making contact, sometimes when we clean the face of the tube water drips down in thru the edge of the frame in the buttonts, corrosion sets in and creates a short,if you are familiar with tv service you can chech the buttons thru the inside to make sure they are not pushed in but if you are not famliar be safe and call for assistance froma servicer.
