Calibration cannot be performed.  Pull out the film and place the Film Adapter Unit at Frame 1.

Same problem, even tried the *newest* drivers from the website (26-01-08).
    :-(

I too have the same problem! I bought the scanner new 18 months ago, used it for about 4 hours with no problems. Packed it away in its box (with the lock on) when I moved house, and when I tried to use it recently it came up with this error. I've tried downloading the latest drivers, and even installing it on a computer that had never had a scanner attached before, but still had the same error message. I've found others on the Net with exactly the same problem, and apparently Canon are choosing to ignore questions about it via their website. Hmmm. Perhaps they should change their advertising campaign; "If anyone can, Canon can't!".

    Same problem.
Tried taking the film out as suggested, but I don't think it is designed to be taken out, as I certainly couldn't get it out!
    Grrrr!!
I have an Apple Intel 10.5.2 system.

Same problem too, when plugged into USB, the scanner mechanices attempts to go through the motions but it just loops back after going a few cm's along the rail. I have scanned film once, ever since then the scanner just wont work.

If this issue occurs even when you're attempting to scan film, then most likely it will be a service issue. You could try the scanner on another computer to confirm.

My canon lide 700f will not calibrate to scan a 35mm film

For those having the "Executes calibration. Pull out the film and place the Film Adapter Unit at Frame 1." issue and cannot calibrate the scanner for NEGATIVE FILM, it took me ages to figure out how to solve it.
Solution: calibrate the frame, WITHOUT any film, adapter plug and placed in frame 1, and proceed to do the calibration WITH THE SCANNER COVER OPEN.
Before I tried everyhing, install new drivers for Windows 8.1, MP Navigator, and nothing happen. Now it works like the first day. Hope it helps! it certainly helped me.

Calibration cannot be performed pull out the film and place the film adapter unit at frame 1. code : 2,142,0

The folder for saving temporary files must exist, and it might not by default. In MP Navigator EX check "Use the scanner driver" and then click "Open Scanner Driver". In the scanner driver window, click "Preferences" in the lower right. On the Scanner tab/page, set "Select Folder Where Temporary Files are Saved" to a place which exists

The lubricant has become sticky and is acting more like adhesive than lubricant. This is the most common cause of malfunction in the LS-2000 and LS-30 scanners. It's a quite curable condition.

Nikon LS-2000 and LS-30 film scanner service and repair is available. Check seller pjferrante2 on eBay. Scanner performance backed for 12 months. Very reasonable price.

Can't calibrate the scan before scanning

I had the same problem when upgrading to mac os x. I was trying to scan directly from Photoshop but got the calibration message. I tried the two solutions given at the Canon website but they didn't work. I ended up downloading the Toolbox application to scan directly from there but the same message appeared. After installing the Toolbox application I unistalled the driver (11250) and reinstalled it. I opened Photoshop and tried scanning and the calibration window appeared only this time it didn't stop to give me the "Flim Adapter" warning. I must point that the scanner lid was open when this happend but I'm not sure that had anything to do with it.

So apparently it works if you have the Toolbox installed prior to installing the driver. The driver, Toolbox application and unistall driver can be found at Canon's website. Hope this helps.

Ciao!

or

try to restart the system in safe mode then try again to scan the document.
press F8 for safe mode while reboot the system.

3- Try to delete scanner from the DEVMGMT.MSC
just click on scanner in the list and delete that.
it can be in USB list.
restart the system

or
4- Try to uninstall scanner's driver from the DEVMGMT.MSC
just type DEVMGMT.MSC in RUN command
then select the scanner from the USB device and right click on the scanner and try to uninstall driver.
then install driver from the cd or internet.

Unable to use film adaptor

Please do the following to scan slides or negatives in manual mode of the Epson TWAIN:
1) In the program you are working from, begin the scanning process. If working in full auto mode, as the scan begins you will see a message that reads TO CANCEL SCANNING IN FULL AUTO MODE AND SWITCH TO MANUAL MODE, CLICK CANCEL. At this point, click CANCEL, then MANUAL MODE.
2) You will now see all Epson Twain settings displayed. If the scanner has not previewed automatically, click the full page preview button (icon of a paper with one corner folded down).
3) Ensure the settings on the right hand side of the Twain are correct. For example, the DOCUMENT SOURCE for transparencies must be either TPU: COLOR NEGATIVE FILM, TPU: MONOCHROME NEG or TPU: POSITIVE FILM.
FILM here indicates that the item being scanned is transparent to light; this setting is also used for slide scanning. Positive indicates that the image is in true colors (ie the grass is green and sky is blue), whereas negative indicates reversed colors, as produced in some photo finishing processes. (If you are scanning a black and white slide in true colors, choose TPU: POSITIVE FILM as the DOCUMENT SOURCE and BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO as the IMAGE TYPE.)
If the DOCUMENT SOURCE is flatbed, the scanner will not activate the backlight in the transparency unit. If the DOCUMENT SOURCE is greyed out and you cannot select a TPU option, close the twain, reseat the power/communication cable connecting flatbed to TPU, then re-open the twain and try again.
4) Ensure the other twain settings are correct for the type of scan you are doing.
IMAGE TYPE should be color photo for all positive or negative color transparencies, or BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO for monochrome transparencies.
DESTINATION is unimportant, however you should select a RESOLUTION appropriate to what you plan to do with the scans. (There are no hard and fast rules for DPI. As a general guideline, if you are saving scans at original size, a resolution ranging from 400-600 DPI should capture enough information to faithfully record the image. If the slide or negative will be enlarged, you will need to increase this DPI accordingly. We have no guidelines on this; you will need to experiment and view the output to gauge the appropriate input DPI from the scanner.)
PREVIEW. If your scanner is doing an AUTOMATIC THUMBNAIL PREVIEW, the slides will automatically preview and appear in boxes on the left side. Here, you can select or deselect the slides you wish to scan.
If you recieve a message that the scanner could not find the film, click the CONFIGURATION button and uncheck AUTOMATIC THUMBNAIL PREVIEW FOR FILM, then OK, and try the PREVIEW button (page with corner folded down) again.
In this mode, you will have to manually marquee or crop the slides you wish to scan. Use the left mouse button to lasso one slide inside a box made of dotted lines, then click scan. Only the selected area will scan. Repeat this process (manually crop then scan) for as many slides or filmstrips are on the bed.
5) Click CLOSE once scanning is complete. The images will now transfer to the application in use.
