i dont think that is the problem. it worked fine then all of a sudden it stopped staying cold. and stopped freezing. so i got a new fridge from rent a center and water leaked all over my floor from my old one. so i plugged it back in and it worked. it worked for a week so i sent the new one back. and now it isnt working again. when i unplug it for a little while and plug it back in it starts working again. for a day or so.

i figured out what the problem was.... it is the defroster coil.... or whatever that thing is called. a glass tube in the back of the freezer that was blown. wouldnt allow the freezer to defrost like it was supposed to every 6 or 8 hours. thats why when i unplugged it and let it defrost completely it would work for about a week til it froze up again. but thanks for trying.

My freezer works but the refridgerator doesn't get very cold

If freezer works airflow into reefer box from the freezer box is too low, ironically enough although the thermostat saying 1-10 and OFF, controls the temperature/compressor operation setpoints desired, but the second setting saying COLDER/WARMER, when set to COLDER actually makes the freezer box colder by starving the reefer box!!! if you back of that settting to middle the reefer will get air again, A very common issue , caused by this wording, it says COLDER freeezer if you really look most just peg both and say hey the reefers warm and freezers cold??and both are set max cold, or so it seems!

Freezer builds up with frost about every 60-75 days. have to empty the freezer and allow to thaw for a few hours

I think I can assume the freezer isn't a "frost-free".
A short physics lesson; hot air holds more moisture than cold air; hot air will flow from a warm area to a colder area, and the colder area will cause the moisture to condensate and freeze(if colder area below freezing, as a freezer should be), causing frost build up.The more often the freezer is opened, the more frost will build up.
Now for 3 possibilities:1) If it is a self-defrosting type, check your defrost timer control...not working, or not working often enough.2) Door seals damaged and need replacement.3)Make the kids stay out of freezer.

Temperatures not staying cold, then getting too cold. First everything in freezer thawed out. Then, fridge wasn't cold enough. We moved everything to freezer just to keep colder (not to freeze). Then, days...

assuming fan now working. clean out vents/ drain holes (make sure no ice in bottom of freezer or in fridge unit)i.e. a total defrost.then check door seals all okay(no air leaks) if unit was trying to defrost itself and you reset to colder it will need to reset itself.....

Frigididaire only staying cold on bottom

You have a bad fan motor remove the ice maker and the back panel of the freezer and you will see the fan blower. changed and will work like new again :)

Top refridgerator does not get cold but the bottom freezer works fine

Most of these have a fan that blows the cold air for the freezer into the refrigiator section. If the fan quits running you will experience your problem.

How long did you wait after installing the fan? It takes 24 hours for the unit to recuperate.
If the fan hasn't been working for a long time, you may have not noticed it was running a lot, but with the new fan you can hear it. Let me know if you don't think this is the case and I can guide you through some other options.
