Whirlpool GW9200L Gas dryer

When I press the start button the display shows 2 dashes and the dryer does nothing.

    I just tried the dryer in all the auto and manual option modes. It will work in delicate mode but no others. The switch turns the light on and off when operated with the door or if I press it manually. When in the delicate mode it will turn on and off properly when the door is opened and closed. Do you still think it's the switch? I'll try what you advised next.

    I took everything apart and found the tech sheet. Put it in diagnostic mode. had 88 on the screen. When I open the door I get a beep and 39. Tech sheet says I should have a number and letter showing. I close the door , get a beep and back to 88.

    The wet finger test on the sensor gave me a solid beep and 02 on the display.

    Took the sensor harness apart and checked the pin with an ohmmeter. Tested ok. Put it back together tried to run the dryer. No start, pulled the plug apart, tried again and it started. Put the plug back together again and it starts. waited 30 minutes, tried again and it started.

    Manual did not arrive yet as of 8:35 EST.

    Thanks for checking back. Since I put everything back together it has been working 9 out of 10 times. The one time that it does not work we open the door and close it then it works. I'll hold off on replacing parts until it gets worse.

The first thing to check is the door switch. It is a pretty common failure I am running into lately.

    You can remove the lower front cover of the dryer and get the techsheet out. There is a diagnostic mode you can put the machine into that will help in narrowing down the problem. If it is the door switch as I think it is here is how you replace it.



    Unplug the dryer.
    The door switch will pop out from the front. I use my knife blade to pry out on the right side of the switch and roll the switch out.
    There may or may not be enough slack in the wires for you to be able to get them hooked to the new switch. I am usually able to grab the wires with some needle nose pliers just behind the connectors and pull enough slack to plug the switch in.
    If they are too short you will have to remove the top and console to reconnect them after you put the new switch in.
    Remove the screws at the rear of the top and it will slide back and lift up.
    Remove the screws holding the support that runs from the console to the rear of the cabinet. Slide it off the console and let it rest on the drum.
    You will see two screws holding the console to the cabinet from the inside of the machine. Remove them and the console will slide up and off. You should have enough slack in tke wires to set the console on the drum. From this point you should be able to reach the wires on the door switch.

    If the dryer will run in delicate mode then it probably is not the switch. There are 2 contacts in the switch, one for the light, one that tells the control the door is closed. The light may work ok but the contact for the door sensor circuit be bad. If the door switch is bad it should not work in delicate mode. I now believe you have a control problem or user interface problem.

    I told you wrong on the location of the tech sheet. It is located under the top of the dryer on the right side panel as you are facing it. Get it out and follow the diagnostic mode instructions. I have a complete repair manual in PDF format I can send you if you post an email address.

    I sent the manual again last night.

    I think your problem is in the control panel. The moisture sensor should not keep the machine from starting or cause dashes to appear in the display, and any problem with the moisture sensor should have affected the delicate cycle as well.

    If you have read and went over the tech sheet diagnostics, you see that your symptoms don't lead to a clear cut diagnosis.

    If I were working on one doing the same thing, I would reccommend replacing the control panel first. Mainly because I have had more failures with control panels than I have with main boards on these dryers.

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

I have a whirlpool duet gas dryer model ggw9200lw1. when i press the start button it clicks once but wont run.


First, check the door switch. Push and release it by hand and you should hear a click. If no sound, replace the door switch with this part.
If the switch is ok, press the cancel button on the machine. Then do this. press and hold the start button for 2 seconds then release wait 2 seconds and press and hold again for 2 seconds continue this pattern until the dryer goes into test mode. You will see all the lights on the control light up. press each button on the control one at a time 3 times each. (Do not press the cancel button) until the dryer begins to run. When the dryer starts to run then press the cancel button. Then your machine should function properly.

go to the back of dryer,remove the back panel,look at blower housing and you see a white thermostat like part with 2 cables. that's the thermofuse. use a multimeter on continuity(beep sound) and disconnect one wire and put leads at the 2 connector of fuse. if no sound then replace it. this is the most common problem. after replacing part check vent at wall that is clean of obstructions.

unplug dryer, remove back panel, look for a white part with 2 connectors on the blower housing and remove one, using a continuity or ohm meter put across the leads and if you hear no sound or see no reading in meter replace that part. is the thermal fuse. this is the most common problem for that failure.

Regarding model LER5644EQ2, here is a link to a parts website complete with an assembly drawing and parts list. In all probability,you have a blown thermal fuse and that will need replacing http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php
Item #23 on the drawing .. a quick test would be to ( with power removed or disabled) measure the resistance across the two terminals and it should not be an open circuit or it is blown. The drawing shows exactly where it is and the parts list shows the item number/ cost and where to buy a replacement. Hope this helps..

Regarding model number is YLEQ5000PW1, you may have the same problem with your thermal fuse.. the parts website does not show a detailed darwing of your model but it should be similar to the other one I've cited in the location and thermal fuse.. The link I am sending is for the parts list for your washer and the thermal fuse.. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

Let me know if that isn't the problem and we can look at other ways to zero in on a solution..
