Have you worked the hold switch back and forth a few times? It sounds like the switch is not operating properly.

Did you try reseting it?? slide the hold switch off and on quickly, and then hold menu and the middle button for at least 10 seconds, your ipod should reboot and you should see the apple logo

when i said resetting it, i should have said restart, because reset might imply that you would lose your music, you will not

it must be hardware based then

Nano goes blank

Reboot your Ipod by holding down on the center button while holding down on the menu button.

This should reboot your IPod.

If that doesn't work plug your Ipod into Itunes and restore your software back to factory settings. Make sure that battery if fully charged as well.

Wont turn on

Have you tried to reset the iPod? The first reset to try is a "soft" one where you just turn the hold switch on and off. If that does nothing, hold down the play and centre buttons together for about 10 seconds. More info is here:

First make sure your hold switch isn't on. It's on the top or bottom and slides back and forth. It needs to be switched to the left. Once it is to the left, here's how you reset:

You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.
