Vista 64 microphone not working

Brand New computer ---Computer - Intel Quad Core CPU Q6600 2.0 GHz
2046 MB
64 bit VISTA Home Premium

I spent 6 hours yesterday attempting to use microphone. I have tried all of the usual suggestions -- making sure mic is not muted, making sure it is default, increase sound levels -- Microphone does not work.

I listed Sound card below -- but actual one is SB Audigy SE

Ok go back and check the box and try again

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

Well based on what we have dialouged your softwre settings is accurate

there could only be 2 other problems

1.) windows vista is corrupted and your system needs to be formatted and everything reinstalled

    or 2

    hardware failure

eighter from both microphones or your sound card..

What you can do is jack the microphone into another device or system and ensure it is working,,

Try the sound card in another system and ensure it is working

and if both are working it means windows needs to be formatted and replaced...

you can try jacking your microphone into a Headphone jack like an mp3 player and see if you hear anything (some microphoes this works with not all )

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

Actually everything that could have possibly gone wrong with your setting we have checked and verified.. based upon our dialogies its more acurate then all other systems...

Do you have another pc you can try the sound card on..

Or a way to test the Microphones

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

    I am :)

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

did you read the last 2 comments ?about hardware ??

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

    ARE YOU THERE ????????????????????

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

Refresh page in half and hour,, i am going to make a few phone calls in case i missed anything

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 13, 2008

WELL FRFOM THE Dilogue we had iand information i was given, its safe to say that all your settings are correct amd we tried everyting we could at the time.. It is hardware eighter your microphone or your sound card..Verify that they are working in another system , if they are then its your windows vista instillation. you will need to format and reinstall..

personally i believe its with your microphone. please verify that they are working.. post back here after you have tried that above and let me know whats happening....

ASSUMING THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED ALL THE AUDIO DRIVERS & data provided by you

if you can hear the audio from any other files i mean mp3 files then the sound card is perfect.

-ensure that the microphone is properly connected into the right port.
-check the microphone you can check it in windows movie maker while recording audio.

Possible speech recognition problems
If no sound is detected after testing the system (see Troubleshooting Speech Systems), consider the following:

  1. The microphone is muted. Some microphones have an external control for muting. Make sure the mute is turned off.
  2. The microphone input level is set too low. On the Speech Recognition tab, select Configure Microphone. Follow the directions in the subsequent Microphone Wizard to set the input level.
  3. The microphone may not be selected as the current input device. On the Speech Recognition tab, click Audio Input to make sure that the microphone is selected.
  4. It is possible that the microphone connections are not properly secured. Make sure the microphone wires are intact and unbroken. The connections to the computer may be loose; unplug the wires and reconnect them making sure they fit snugly. See Set Up a Microphone for additional connection information.
  5. Check the documentation for the microphone's hardware for information specific to the manufacturer. This may include making certain the sound card for the computer is also properly seated, installed and that the correct drivers are available.
  6. The SR engine may be corrupted. To test for corruption, switch to another engine if you have one. See Changing the SR engine. If the other engine is working properly, reinstall the specific engine from the original source. If no engine is working properly, reinstall the SAPI component from the original source or CD.

32 bit program to 64 bit opperating system

From the Autocad webiste:
System Requirements AutoCAD® Civil and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2009 Recommended System Requirements Recommended configuration (excluding server components used with project management capabilities):
  • Intel® Pentium® 4 (3 GHz or higher); AMD Athlon™; multiple processors supported, dual-core supported
  • 32-bit only: Microsoft® Windows Vista® Ultimate/Business/Enterprise, Microsoft® Windows XP (SP2)
Note: Windows XP 64 and Windows Vista 64 are supported in 32-bit compatibility mode only.

Here's how you should be able to run it in compatibility mode:
1. Right click on the Autocad Icon in your start menu
2. click on Properties
3. click on the Compatibility tab at the top
4. check the box next to Compatibility Mode and select Vista 32 bit if it is given as an option.

I don't have Vista here, but that is how it works in XP and I did do a search and it appears to be the same in Vista.
