Vista 64 microphone not working

Brand New computer ---Computer - Intel Quad Core CPU Q6600 2.0 GHz

64 bit VISTA Home Premium

I spent 6 hours yesterday attempting to use microphone. I have tried all of the usual suggestions -- making sure mic is not muted, making sure it is default, increase sound levels -- Microphone does not work.

I listed Sound card below -- but actual one is SB Audigy SE

Re: Vista 64 microphone not working

if you can hear the audio from any other files i mean mp3 files then the sound card is perfect.

-ensure that the microphone is properly connected into the right port.
-check the microphone you can check it in windows movie maker while recording audio.

Possible speech recognition problems
If no sound is detected after testing the system (see Troubleshooting Speech Systems), consider the following:

  1. The microphone is muted. Some microphones have an external control for muting. Make sure the mute is turned off.
  2. The microphone input level is set too low. On the Speech Recognition tab, select Configure Microphone. Follow the directions in the subsequent Microphone Wizard to set the input level.
  3. The microphone may not be selected as the current input device. On the Speech Recognition tab, click Audio Input to make sure that the microphone is selected.
  4. It is possible that the microphone connections are not properly secured. Make sure the microphone wires are intact and unbroken. The connections to the computer may be loose; unplug the wires and reconnect them making sure they fit snugly. See Set Up a Microphone for additional connection information.
  5. Check the documentation for the microphone's hardware for information specific to the manufacturer. This may include making certain the sound card for the computer is also properly seated, installed and that the correct drivers are available.
  6. The SR engine may be corrupted. To test for corruption, switch to another engine if you have one. See Changing the SR engine. If the other engine is working properly, reinstall the specific engine from the original source. If no engine is working properly, reinstall the SAPI component from the original source or CD.

I downloaded some videos to my hard drive. When I try to burn them on or erase them from my DVD, I get this error: "Error 0x80070017: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". What should I do? Note: ...

Cyclic redundancy is one of the data checking algorithms and it is getting a non-recoverable error for some reason.

I suspect the software you are using to burn the DVD may be corrupt or incompatible with your Vista operating system.

It ALSO might be that the video is COPYRIGHTED and you are being blocked from copying it to a removable medium. There is no solution for that situation.

I have a compaq presario c700 running windows vista. On my previous laptop I was able to record successfully using Audacity. Now, however, recordings are very poor - the sound comes and goes, and is of...

Stuart, make sure have the System requirements Here are the recommended memory (MB or GB of RAM) and processor speed (GHz) requirements for using Audacity with different versions of Vista:

Version Recommended RAM/
processor speed Minimum RAM/
processor speed Vista Home Basic 2 GB / 1 GHz 512 MB / 1 GHz All other Vista versions 4 GB / 2 GHz 1 GB / 1 GHz
Note that the minimum system requirements as defined above (i.e. those that allow the operating system to run, ignoring what is required to run applications) are much greater than for Windows XP. If your computer does not significantly exceed these minimum requirements then you may have problems doing more intensive tasks in Audacity such as recording for long periods or editing a large number of long tracks, or may need to close other programs and processes before you can do so. Please be aware that the cheapest "deals" for new Vista machines may well only include the Vista Home Basic Edition and system specifications little in excess of the Vista minimum requirements.
Other things being equal, 64-bit versions of Vista will require more RAM than 32-bit versions. While some users report Audacity runs fine on 64-bit Vista with 2 GB RAM, this depends on the number of tracks being worked with and the number of other programs and services running on the computer. Memory is now very inexpensive. The general recommendation for 64-bit Vista is to install a minimum of 4 GB RAM - and for very best performance, install the maximum RAM that your motherboard supports.

If you meet the min system requirements. Uninstall your sound card drives and try the beta version for Windows Vista.

Sound doesnt come out from guitar link UCG102

what you need to do is install the asio4all driver then select file, adio midi settings and where it says behringer audio codec click the arrow and select asio4all then click the configure button and in the wdm list you must activate all the items under audio codec and the audio speaker under High Definition audio device this will allow it to work through the speakers, or just leave it how it is and plug in a set of headphones. make note though that your speakers will play nothing else but the guitar sound. all other music internet sounds, the lot will no longer work as your ucg102 is high jacking your sound card to produce the sound from your guitar. hope this helps.

Can't install m-audio firewire

It doesn't 64-bit windows. (no driver) this is part of why people who are serious about audio tend to use macs.

You can install 32-bit windows, then the included drivers will work.
