In my above solution there is a segment that reads "of the back of the E" which should be "at the back of the "E"".

I took the base off a 203. Turns out you have to simultaneously push back four little plastic tabs. They look like little rakes with 4 prongs. If the base were a clock the tabs would be located adjacent to the edge at the 2, 4, 8 and 10 o'clock positions. Insert thin blades on the smooth side of the tabs, opposite the rake prongs. Do not shove anything in the other holes on the base (which also have tabs... they secure little assemblies internally attached to the base). Once the correct tabs are pushed back you should be able to get the base off. Be careful, or you'll never get it back together! But once you get the base off, what next ??!! My conclusion: you may succeed in repairing it if you're an watchmaker! I failed. After that experience, a new unit seems like the better way to go.

Per company spokeman, unit is unrepairable, if under warranty, they will send a new one, if not, will have to buy another.

Pretty typical company answer. Liability and the desire to sell new machines discourages any other answer.

Motor turns but rotating knife remains stationary

It appears that the top portion of the blade needs to be tightened to the motor shaft. You could easily do it yourself, but a shop would probably, and more safely, do it for free, as it would take less than 15 seconds to do that. Call around and see if any shop will do it for you, and ak if they will charge.......they shouldn't.

what problem do you have?
If the grinder does not run when turned on, make sure power is on to the outlet, then check the electrical cord.
If the grinder runs intermittently or doesn't stop, the switch may be clogged or damaged. Unplug the grinder and brush any grounds from the switch with a fine brush. Depress the switch several times with a toothpick. If the problem persists, disassemble the grinder to clean it and inspect the switch for breaks that you can fix.
If the grinder does not run, the motor shaft may be frozen. Disassemble the grinder, clean the shaft and lubricate each bearing point with one or two drops of lightweight machine oil. Rotate the shaft to evenly distribute the oil.
coffeegrinder1_1.jpgMost coffee grinders are accessed by removing fasteners on the base of the device. If the grinder still does not operate, the thermal limiter may be burned out. If you can't readily find a replacement thermal limiter, it may be more cost effective to replace the grinder.
If the grinder vibrates, the blade may be bent. Inspect the blade and replace if it is damaged or dull. Another cause of vibration could be a worn motor bearing. Unplug the grinder and remove the access plate. The bearing is bad if the motor shaft moves when pushed back and forth; replace the grinder.

When i turn it on motor doesn't turn just hear the hum like it is trying to turn but can't

It probably cooked the motor. You need to assess the cost of repair against a new unit and if your coffee will have a smokey taste if repaired also It would be easier to just buy a new one. Not worth the time or effort to repair.thanks

MOTOR HUMS. BUT BLADE NOT SPINNING.

Hi,

See if you can turn the blades or reach a knife balde in to turn the blades....if something has jammed them.... get it removed... if they spin feely, then the motor is bad and replacement will probably cost more then a new one...
