How do i replace a broken dryer belt?

Unplug the dryer and remove it to the outside (if possible). Pop the top. Remove the front, then the shroud (if applicable to your model). Get the drum out and give it a good vacuum. Place the new belt around the drum making sure it is not twisted. 99% of all dryers the ribbed side goes down on the drum. If the belt is twisted it will be destroyed the minute you start the dryer. Not sure what brand you have so I inserted some links above. Good luck on your dryer repair. Get your belt here, here or here.

Dryer stopped working?

  1. From the top of the dryer, remove the lint trap. Using your screwdriver, unscrew the assembly that houses the lint screen and remove it from the dryer, setting it aside.
  2. Using your screwdriver as a lever, insert it under the front right side of the dryer, between the top and the body. Press down to force the top slightly up from the body. Repeat this process on the left side, and lift the top off the dryer.
  3. Remove the lower panel from the dryer by inserting the screwdriver into each side and rotating to release the clips that hold it in place. Slide your phone book under the now-exposed dryer drum so that the drum will be supported.
  4. Loosen the screws at the bottom of the front cover, but do not remove them (this allows access to the belt without requiring you to remove and replace the entire front cover). Move to the top of the dryer, and remove the screws holding the front of the dryer in place. (These will be located at the top, behind the front.) Tip the cover toward you, exposing the drum, and slip the broken belt off the drum without fully removing. Slip the new belt over the drum, and lift up on the drum while returning the cover to the closed position. Replace the screws to the front cover and tighten the lower screws. Remove your phone book from its position under the drum.
  5. Check the rear drum seal to the back of the dryer, and position the new belt identical to the old, with the textured side facing down.
  6. Directing your attention to the motor area, remove the old belt and feed the new belt through, passing the entire belt, doubled over, under the idler pulley. Push the belt toward the motor pulley, placing the belt around it, and allow the tension to release on the idler pulley.
  7. With your hand inside the dryer drum, rotate the drum counterclockwise to ensure that the belt has been properly installed. Replace the top of the dryer, exerting downward pressure for a snug fit, followed by replacing the lint screen assembly, and the lint trap, and then replacing the lower front cover.
  8. Run the dryer for several minutes to ensure that the dryer is operational and that you have installed your belt correctly.

What is the routing of a dryer belt? It's a Roper dryer model GL6050VLO

To install a new belt and re-install the pulley, follow these steps:

1. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

3. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and refer to diagram H.

You can also refer to pcappliancerepair.com for some excellent exploded view diagrams of your dryer. Just type in your model number as "GL6050VL0" (the last digit is a zero, not the letter O), and go to the "Bulkhead" section.

NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool, so these instructions will apply.

If you have questions, or require additional assistance please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Putting the belt back on this dryer

Hello Friend, Replacing a dryer belt is very simple. Just remove front of dryer cabinet. unplug wires from dryer door switch. Just slide a new belt over the drum with the belt grooves facing to the inside. Underneath drum you will see a tention wheel next to motor. Install belt around tention wheel and around motor shaft pully. Re-install front dryer cabinet. Make sure to plug in the wires to the door switch and make sure that the drum is re-inserted back over the felt glide on inner cabinet front. Happy to help, Tim.

Belt broke

Buy a new belt. Insert the idler pulley into the slots under the motor pulley. The wheel should be on the left side of the motor as you face it.
Put the belt around the drum, then through the idler roller. Then over the motor pulley.
