The AC cord got uplugged by accident and the battery went all the way down. Now it will not charge up again. Is it OK to ignore that and just use AC power?
Thank you iken. I have had the battery changed on this laptop once and it was not a snap to do so I am leaning towards just leaving this battery in and using the adaptor. Just wanted to make sure that a working battery was not a must-have.Thank you iken. Just to let you know, the A/C was plugged into a mini power strip. I unplugged it from there (with the laptop off) and then plugged it directly into a socket. BINGO - the batter powered right up. Now I have to decide whether to plug it back into the strip.........Just to let you know, the A/C was plugged into a mini power strip. These use a new generation smart adapter with a data circuit. Try another battery first but if it works fine on adapter it should not hurt anything. These models are also coming out of the woodwork with charging circuit failure, Video circuit failures and more. Good luck!
Thanx for the Thank you by the way.. If it does eventually die give us a buzz. KenThanx for the Thank you by the way.. If it does eventually die give us a buzz. Ken

Maybe the AC Adapter Power Cord is not working. If you can't get on the laptop with the power cord then it is bad and the battery might be drained so you have no power source to power up the laptop. If the laptop works only off the Power Cord and the batteryis not charging, then the battery is dead.
To check to make sure the Power Cord is working remove the battery and let thelatop run for 10 minutes or so.
To check to see if the battery has any charge left in it put the battery in andremove the power cord. If it won't boot or shuts down then the battery is deadand needs to be replaced if the power cord is ok.

Battery could be dead and won't hold another charge. Batteries only last for so long until you have to replace them. If you laptop is ok with the AC Adapter & Power Cord meaning it boots and allows you to work in windows, then the battery is definitely dead.
The battery continues to charge if the computer is off. The computer probably won't turn on because the battery is so low. It might not be charging because the power cord might not be plugged into a wall plug that is on. The plug might be on a switch. Find a plug that you know for sure that is on then plug it in there and try again.
Take out the AC power jack and then remove the laptop battery. Plug AC power back in and see if the laptop will turn on. If it turns on let it boot the operating system and then shut down as normal, remove the power cord and reinsert the battery and again see if it will switch on. If it does then there has been a glitch with the battery. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the battery.
If the laptop won't switch on either with or without the battery then there is a possibility that the motherboard has developed a problem.
Sometimes, the battery alarm is set to high or off and it will automatically warn you when the battery is at a certain percentage. Most newer laptops will even warn you when the battery is going bad.
The AC cord is both the power cord and it will also charge the battery when plugged in as well.
So, it's safe to run on just battery as it may just be telling you that it doesn't have AC power and that you're running only on the battery. My Satellite laptop is setup to warn you when it's only on battery power as well.
ok well there is somwhere to start i would see if you can get it to take a charge ok and if it does than try to start it without the ac power on and see what it does if it wont take a charge your battery may be bad or your charging circuit may not be connected correctly ok lrt me know best regards mike
