Screen freezes when scrolling in Internet Explorer or Inbox

Often when using the vertical or horizontal scrollbars in Internet Explorer & Inbox, the entire screen will freeze for a very long time. The unit is still usable via the buttons, and if I wait long enough (maybe 20 minutes) the screen will unfreeze. Other than waiting, the other way to unfreeze the screen is to switch the unit off briefly, the only problem with that solution is you lose wireless connectivity for some time.

Can you try restarting the computer and see if the issue persists if you just have internet explorer working. The issue itself might be that there are too much applications running int he background at once and it is straining your computer

Testimonial: "Hi John Leung, Thanks for your reply, but something weird is going on. Despite that at the end of my question it now says "Posted by Ralph77 on Jul 10, 2017", this was actually a question I posted 7 or 8 years ago! It was a question that related to a Windows Pocket PC, a Mitac Mio 168, a device that pre-dated smartphones and tablets! Needless to say, that device hit the dust many yonks ago... really odd that this should show up as a new question! Cheers, Ralph."

I think that screen freezes because you are not doing something right with it. You need to understand ???????????? for it and then try again. You will get something then.

SOURCE: Freezing on start up

I have had a aproblem with my digiwalker Mio, which also was freezing up. The only way to sort it is a HARD RESET. The problem in my case appears to be due to the start up program initiating GPS/Tom Tom at the same time. good luck

Cursor constantly scrolling on compaq notebook

Step 1:
The touchpad of Hewlett Packard Compaq notebook computers comes equipped with vertical and horizontal scroll capabilities. Dragging your finger on the top or side of the touchpad will scroll in windows equipped with scrollbars. This feature takes some getting used to if you're used to a regular mouse or a wheel equipped mouse. If you prefer to not have vertical and horizontal scrolling performed from the touchpad, one or both features can be disabled.

Double-click the red Synaptics icon on your task bar. If it's not displaying, open the Control Panel and click on "Mouse" in Windows XP. In Windows Vista/7, type "Mouse" in the search field of the "Start" menu and click on the Mouse result. Click on the "Device Settings" tab and then click on the "Settings" button. The Properties for Synaptics TouchPad dialog box will appear. Click on "Virtual Scrolling" in the "Select an Item" box on the left. Clear one or both scrolling features in the "Virtual Scrolling" section. Click "Apply," and then "OK."

My scrollbar will not work. I can use my touchpad just right and right click and left click, but I cannot scroll on a page I have to use my arrow keys, how do I fix this?

Most modern laptops with touchpads offer vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling or both. These features are located along the right-hand and bottom edges of the touchpad, respectively, and are activated when you swipe your finger along the touchpad edge. Scrolling functionality is nearly always enabled by default, but some users find the feature an annoyance and elect to turn it off. In most cases you can simply turn the feature back on using the Windows Control Panel.

Click the Windows Start button, select "Settings," and then click "Control Panel." Double-click the icon labeled "Mouse." Select the Touchpad properties tab. The labeling of this tab varies, depending on your computer manufacturer, operating system version and the device drivers installed on your machine. Common labels include "Touch Pad," "Device Settings" and "Dell Touchpad." If you do not see this option, you may not be able to turn on scrolling for your laptop; skip the remaining steps and refer to the "Warnings" section below. Click the "Settings" button within the Touchpad Properties menu and look for the section labeled "Scrolling Settings" or similar. Enable scrolling within this section and define other scroll settings, such as scroll zone width and scrolling speed. Click "OK" to confirm your changes, and then close the Control Panel windows opened in the previous steps. The scrollbar on your laptop is now enabled.
Scroll Is Not Working With Windows 7 b> Certain computer touchpads have a vertical section on the pad itself that is used to scroll through the page or program window that you are currently viewing on your computer. If the scroll functionality suddenly stops working but the actual touchpad is still fine, this means that the part of the software for the device that controls the ability to use the scroll has been disabled. You can enable it again in the Control Panel.
Click "Start." Click "Control Panel." Click "Mouse." Select the "Enable Scroll" option (or whatever similarly named option is available on your specific model of laptop computer). Click "Apply." The scroll bar on your touchpad will now work again.

Scroll ring intermittent / non functioal

I have a similar symptom, that is, apparent loss of scroll ring functionality as homercles1 noted, but in fact the scroll ring functionality gets toggled between horizontal scrolling and vertical scrolling as Rithas has noted. A window that is not wide enough to require horizontal scrolling will give the appearance of loss of scroll ring functionality when the scroll ring is in horizontal scroll mode. Likewise, a window that is not tall enough to require vertical scrolling will give the appearance of loss of scroll ring functionality when the scroll ring is in vertical scroll mode.
Solution that worked for me:
My upper right-hand button is defined as "Allow Horizontal Scroll" and by clicking this button, the scroll ring function toggles between horizontal and vertical scrolling. In fact, what can appear to be a nonfunctional scroll ring in some windows is very useful when moving around in large windows.
Hope this comment will be useful to you.
