How do I install an operating system on my Compaq EVO D500? The hard drive has been wiped clean and there is no operating system on it. I have a windows 98 SE uprade disk.

Hi, you can only use an upgrade disk for win98 if you have win95. If you do not want to purchase an OS, look into linux. I've been very happy with openSUSE and Ubuntu.

I need to reboot my compaq evo d500 but i do not have the disk to do so. I need some help

I researched your problem with not having your restore CD. You need to go back to the vendor that being HP to get the CD's from them. I found a link that should get you started on getting the restore CD you need. Either click on the link or copy and paste it into your web browser. From there I would then log in and hopefully you have an account set up already and then either contact their tech support via phone or email to get some replacement restore CD's. The link is below:

I hope this helps you out and if so leave me some feedback.

I have a HP Evo Intel Pentium 4 destop oc, xp pro (dc5000). it crashed and when we went to reload the OS and drivers, we lost most of the drivers and applications. I can boot it up but it will not go...

Since you have an HP, you can order a replacement set of "System Restore" disks from HP, for less than $20 -- much less than buying a "retail" copy of Windows. That set of CDs will have the correct drivers and the same "factory-installed" applications.

Salesman is right. It's built slim for space, not efficiency. It was built for those with tiny rooms.
Sad thing is, buying hard drives etc. for laptops cost a lil more.

CD ROM/Burner for the EVO D500, is it standard or special order?

A standard combo drive or a DVD burner will be a great replacement for your machine. Make sure it is the same type of drive that your system uses (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA).

Three things you can do:
1) Change your configuration back to what it was when the PC was new. Then reinitialize the PC and change it back to the desired configuration.
2) Purchase a "retail" copy of whatever OS you want to install. Do not buy an upgrade version, as this might not work without having an os installed before installation.
3) Buy a new PC. Not much of a fix for your PC, but this option can save a lot of time and hassle.
