Turn the remote on each side and wack it on your palm three times each side. Don't kill it, just hard enough to loosen the sensor...its stuck.
Hey none of the fancy reset directions worked for me either, but I GOT IT TO WORK by banging it - 2-3 times on the right side in my palm, then 2-3 times on the left side in my palm. (Geesh... what kind of board did I just write that on??) Anyway, just whack away! It took a couple rounds of this whacking, but it did fix it. I had bought my remote second-hand off of eBay and was bummed I got a bad one, but this resolved the issue quite nicely and now I can kick three of my friends' **** in Mario Kart instead of just 2 at a time!
Had same problem. Remote would not sense motion. Took battery out then put back in. Then smacked it firmly, but not hard enough to break it 3 to 4 times on a hard surface.
That did the trick! Bowled a 160!
My son has two remotes so I guess if you don't play two player games a lot you should swap remotes every so often to keep the motion sensor limber.
Thank you sooooo much Henro, we have our Wii back.
This has 100% worked for us, and it is even easier to control aswell.
Fantastic!!!
I tried the bagging on a surface as posted before and it worked for me too!
Hi i posted the same problems as what you have described. i then read the solutions posted (the turn off and re-sync the machine) and it worked perfectly cheers!!! wished i had looked at trouble-shooting the machine before i spent a tenner on a new sensor bar!!!!
Hi, we're having the same problem as above...has anyone gotten this to work ? Sensor works while directing set up and choices, but no action when it comes to playing the games. Please advise, thank you.

Same problem today. We tried re-syncing the remote. We took the batteries out and reloaded. It still won't swing.
Having exactly the same problem, any ideas?
Tried new batteries, re-synching, scouring the net....help!!!
i rang nintendo.they said-
remove remote batteries
turn on Wii console
hold sync button on console for 20 secs
turn off Wii console
unplug the power cable from the Wii and the wall
wait 10 secs
plug back in
turn on console
place batteries back in remote
hold down both sync button on console and on the remote for 2secs
press the A button on the remote
They said 9/10 times this works.......
guess i'm that 1 that doesn't!!!!!!
hi was having trouble with what i thought was the sensor bar - ie the exact problems you have been describing- i went and bought a new sensor bar and it worked for maybe a month then the same problems - surely this is a major fault within the console????? i certainly cant afford to go buy a new bar every month!! i found this happened with every game and not just a select few still waiting for an email from nintendo
ever time i want to play a game one of the remote dose not work the finger on the screen seems to be upside down please help me
The same. I can use the remote on the menu screen but when it comes to playing a game -no chance. My other remote works absolutely fine.

I had the exact same problem and it happened shortly after getting the Wii. But I tried banging the remotes a few times as was suggested and it worked!!! For both of my remotes! I am so happy, because I had tried everything else, and we had resigned to not using the Wii until we could pay to get it serviced. Now it's good as new!!
Just before I wanted to give up on this wiimote (it's giving me a hard time for a while with shake and swing not working), I've tried this and it's working!!! If you don't succeed at first, give it a couple of tries, it will work for sure.
