Question about Home Theater Systems

2 Answers

ONKYO HT-SR700 I recently set up my system to my Toshiba HD player using the optical cable for audio. Currently it is generating a pulsing humming noise and a crackling noise while in the suround modes with the optical hook up. What could be my problem. I tried hooking up the analog cables and it illiminated the noise if I kept it in stereo mode but quickly comes back when in any of the suround modes as well. I would like to let you know that the back right surround speaker wire is running next to a transmitting cellular device for the home security system. Could this one wire be the problem? I have read nothing but good reviews on this system and recently recieved it as a gift. It was ordered online and I really do not want to send it back if this problem can be resolved.

I have an Onkyo HT R550 hooked up to my blue ray via an optical audio cable, the question is why wont it do 7.1 at all it is a full onkyo 7.1 system

The limitation could be in either end. The player may not be set up to transmit the full 7.1 bitstream or the Onkyo may not be set up to play it (7.1 speakers defined, digital input assigned, calibration completed etc.)

You'll find all that in the manuals.

No audio from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100 7.1

if you are using an HDMI cable dont expect sound to come out (even thought HDMI carries both audio and video) the onkyo HT-s5100's Receiver is the HT-r560. the 500 models of the onkyo receiver does not allow HDMI to carry both audio and video. it only allows the video signal to pass to the receiver.

if youre using optical for audio w/c is what you need then these are the steps you need to follow.
*first make sure that the optical connections are ok at the back of the receiver.
*make sure that your DIGITAL INPUT is set to either OPT1 or OPT2 whichever optical input you used to connect the optical cable.
*then go to your PS# settings : go to sound settings / audio moutput settings/ select digital out (optical).

then enjoy.....ü

No sound when playing dvd

HDMI may not output sound. Go into the setup screen of the DVD player and go into audio setup. Make sure you have it set for PCM or equivalent DIGITAL setting. If you set that and you still get no surround sound, you will have to use and optical cable between the receiver and the DVD.

Hooking up a sony playstation 3 with digital optical cable

Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.

You need an Optical Audio1.gif Cable. Hook one end to the HD Cable Box and the other to your Surround Sound System1.gif. If you dont have an Optical Cable to your Cable Box, then try using the usual audio cables. But, I have HD and it worked with the Optical Audio Cable.
