Did you finalize the disc on the DVD recorder that burned the file? Without more information on your DVD recorder, I can't give you exact directions to find the command on your unit. On my DVD/VCR, after recording, I usually finalize a disc before removing it from the recorder. On mine, I press Menu and go to Disc. I add a title (optional) and then select the Finalize option. Then accept the finalization (which makes it impossible to add more to the disc). For -RW discs, you can unfinalize and then reformat them. Write once discs are permanently stored.
What type of disc did you record to? Some other players may not recognize DVD+R or DVD-R discs or DL discs. Check the specs on the other players and try different brands/types of discs for future recording.
If you add a comment with the type of DVD recorder used to burn the problem discs, I may be able to give additional advice.
Did you finalize the disc? How you do this will depend on whether you are using your computer or a standalone DVR. On XP, I had to tell my burning software to finalize the disc after burning. On Windows 7, I find it will finalize the disc on eject (until I changed that setting). Finalizing the disc is an option under right clicking when I have a disc in the drive.
On a standalone DVR, you should find an option to finalize the disc in the menus that let you write a title to the disc.
Without finalization, other dvd players will not be able to read the disc. You also need to make sure that the disc is compatible with each player (+/- R is not universal).
It is possible that the disks are not finalized. You may need to configure it to auto finalize, which is off by default. It
would be impossible to have more than one title on a disk if you always
auto finalized. Check your manual, and finalize your disks. Many times marginal disks will play OK in the unit they were recorded on, but not so well in other players. The media (disks) could be the problem as well. On a side note, the DR410 will NOT burn DL (dual layer) disks. I hope this helps and good luck.
Try a different brand of blank DVD.
If that doesn't work any better, and your MacBook Pro is in fact "brand new," bring it to the Apple Store, because you have warranty redress.
1. turn it on
2. use cord.
3.move the on buttom to mode. it will show the recordings.
4. select a recording
5.press function butom. it will up bring several choices among "menu"
6. slect menu
7. it will give you all the chioces you need to title, finailize, protect and all needed to view the dvd
I have found that any disc faster than 4X will not finalize. 8x disc will record but not finalize. 16X disc will not even record. I haven't been able to find any D VD+R 4X. 4X disc work fine and will finalize if you can find any.
Try this. In your SETUP options, ensure that AUTO FINALIZE and FINALIZE AT END OF TIMER are turned OFF. Insert DVD. Press SETUP button. Be patient. Once DVD has loaded the DISK FINALIZE option will be available. You can then FINALIZE. I found it much cheaper to get DVD-R from Radio Shack (about $5 for 25) for VHS movies that I know I want to keep. They do record up to 6 hours, even though the packaging is unclear on this point.
