Re: windows 2000 professional

Do an inplace upgrade with a windows 2000 install disc, and after it restarts from the win16 bit interface, and it boots up from HDD to the screen where it says "installing device drivers" press shift+F10 and that should bring up a command prompt. from there, type in "nsrmgr.cpl" and configure. also try at the command prompt "control userpassword2"

I bought a 2nd hand computer,it has xp professional,it was used by a is protected by user name and password, which when entered still wont allow access for windows to start up,what do i do

Start the computer in SAFE mode (pressing F8 at startup and select Safe Mode)
There will be a Administrator account that usually has no password.
Click on that one and once you log in, you can remove the password on the other account, or delete, or create a new account.
Good luck.

I don't know my administrator password. How can I erase it?

Try to login to safe mode by pressing f8 when the system starts up. Once you are in safe mode you can click on administrator account and login. You can login only if administrator account is not password enabled.

Bought a laptop at a pawn shop dont have password for windows how do i get in

Well, you can try this:
Assuming you have XP on it, start it in safe mode.
Now log on as administrator.
Most times, computers have been set up with passwords, but the user has forgotten to password protect the administrator account.

Hey Steve/Becky - I have one question for you before I fix your problem. When you booted in safe mode, did it give an option of several logons, i.e.- yours and an administrators?

Yes, when you switch the laptop on hold down the F8 key until you see a black screen with a list of white text, one of the options will be "Safe Mode", use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode (just safe mode, not safe mode with anything) and press return. The computer will start to the welcome screen and you will see a user-name you don't normally see called "Administrator". Click on Administrator and you will find it is not password protected (in spite of the fact that the Administrator account has more access to the system than any other account!) when the administrator profile loads it will ask you if you want to continue in safe mode and you do. click start, click control panel and click on users and groups now click on your son's user account and click remove password. now click back, click on the Administrator account and click change password, the old password should be left blank and you're new Administrator password should be something at least 7 letters, numbers and special characters (!@£$%^&*) long that you can remember. Now just restart and let it start up normally, once loaded advise your son to set a password he can remember or at least write down somewhere safe.
