Re: keeps asking to load original in document feeder

This has a happy ending. But first, the obligatory narrative:
The HP site has advice on how to deal with a document feeder that doesn't detect your document. It doesn't talk about the opposite problem, which is what molecular is describing. I had the identical problem yesterday. I'd place the original on the glass and it kept demanding that I put the original in the feeder. So I got into a chat session with the HP technician. Her advice, (based on the possibility that a power surge had created the problem) unplug from everything, restart, and retry. The problem persisted. I told her so. She broke the connection. Nice.
So here is how I fixed it. Using the Setup button>Tools>3. Restore factory defaults, I returned the device to its factory settings. I put the original on the glass and it made the copy without a problem.
Here is a pure speculation. There are at least two ways to enter settings related to two-sided copying. I had used one to enter the settings (two-sided original to two-sided copy, as it happens) and later tried to use another button to change those settings. I noticed the 2-sided settings did not change. I believe the feeder is the default for two-sided copying. So when the system failed to clear the settings, it failed to clear the default. Once I returned all settings to the factory originals, the problem disappeared.

I did not understand sir, what you want to ask.If you want to rename the file then its not possible on machine. You can just give print cannot edit it or rename the documents to be printed through machine.Every time you will check job list there will be an option to stop printing or CANCEL.If you want to make a copy then simply place the original in document feeder or onto the glass then simply press the START button. Its best to select the tray first. If red light glows then check the trays are properly closed.Check if tray is empty then load paper.Every time any error comes on machine it will appear on screen. When red light glows, kindly check if there is some indication appeared on screen or instructions, then please follow it or explain the problem in detail which you are facing.ALL THE BEST!

Instructions for scanning on epson cx4300/cx5500/dx4400

Hi there,
Scanning the Document

Place the original on the glass.
1) Open the document cover and place your original face-down on the glass, in the upper left corner. Move your original about 1/10 inch away from the top and left edges so all of it will be copied. 2) Close the cover gently so you don't move the original . Caution : Never open the document beyond where it stops and do not place heavy objects on top of the CX4600. If you need to copy or scan a thick or large document, you can remove the document cover. Just open it and pull it straight up. If you need to press the document flat while you copy or scan it, do not press too hard and be careful not to move it. Caution : Do not use excessive force on the document cover, and do not twist it diagonally. You may damage the document cover. When you are done, replace the document cover by inserting the tabs back into the slots. Copying a document. 1) Load paper. 2) Press copy button until you see the desired number of copiesin the Copy window You can select up to 9 copies at a time. 3) Press the paper type button to select PLain Paper. The light indicates which type is selected. 4) Press the paper size button to select Letter. 5) If you want your copies automatically reduced or enlarged to fit the loaded paper size, press the Fit to Page button. 6) To make color copy, press the Start Color button To make black and white copy, press Start B&W button. The ON light flashes and after a moment the CX4600 starts printing. If you need to stop copying at any time, just press the Stop button. Do no pull out paper that is printing, it will eject automatically to the output tray. Hope this helps. Please rate my response. Thanks Have a good day.

When faxing does paper face uup or down

You load the originals print side uo on the document feeder tray or print side down on the glass.
To send a single page fax you can either load the original on document feeder tray or on the glass; to send a multi-page fax you must use the document feeder tray.

The position of the paper is the same either you copy, fax or scan.
All this is clearly explained in the user's manual, that you should read and you can download from HP support pages for you printer:

if using the feeder probably face up as it will likely pull the document in and invert it to lay face down on the scanning glass.

if you lift up the feeder (like lifting the top of a copy machine), then it would be face down on the glass.

there should be an image on the feeder illustrating how the document should be placed - if it looks like a page with lines on it with a bent corner then it is face up.

ADF has something on it causing a stripe on all copies

Lift the document feeder and clean the narrow glass, (next to the glass where you place your originals). Documents are scanned across this glass when automatic feeder is used, thus a small piece of dirt becomes a line down the page.

Scanning on an mp500

First you should have installed the scanner in the computer using the cd comes with the scanner.
  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and press the <Open> button. (The paper output tray will open.)

  2. Load paper in the auto sheet feeder or the cassette in the portrait orientation.

  3. Lift the document cover and set a document on the platen glass.

    - Regardless of the document size, set it in the landscape orientation.

    - Place the copying face down on the platen glass.

    - Align the document with the alignment mark (shown as the arrow) on the lower right corner of the platen glass.

Note: The machine cannot scan the area approximately 3 mm from the front and right edges of the platen glass.

    < 1 > Alignment Mark

  4. Close the document cover gently.

  5. Confirm that the printer is in Copy mode. If the printer is not in Copy mode, press the <COPY> button to switch into Copy mode.

  6. Check the copy settings, following the procedures below carefully.

< 1 > Check the paper size and media type.

< 2 > Use the up / down cursor button to specify the number of copies.

< 3 > Use the right / left cursor button to adjust the intensity.

Memo: Pressing the right cursor button increases the intensity. Pressing the left cursor button decreases the intensity.

  7. Press the <Color> button for color copying, or the <Black> button for black & white copying. (The printer starts copying.)

Note: To cancel copying, press the <Stop/Reset> button.

Lines on copys when i feed through top feeder

There is a small strip of glass under the feeder. Not the main glass, but look where the lamp is sittting in the start position.
You have something on that section of glass.
It may be very tiny, but that is what causes that. Best way I have found to get that clean is with some alcohol and just a plain piece of copy paper crumpled and used as your cleaning towel.
The reason it is there only when you copy through the feeder is this. When you copy off the glass, the lamp moves and scans the original end to end. So a spot is simply a spot.
When you run through the feeder, the lamp parks and the document passes over the lamp scanning that way. So any mark between the lamp and document will repeat and be line down the page.
