The knobs should just pull straight off. Don't tilt or bend them around, just pull them straight. off.

SOURCE: Hi I have a kitchen aid cook top and need to

Did these work for you Frank? I need the same thing, but when I try to find them by part # on appliancepartspros.com they either don't come up, or they are a GE part. Can the GE knob be used for the kitchen aid cooktop?

To remove the knobs from the cooktop you just pull them off. They are only presser fitted on a post.

Good advise on removing the knob. My problem is that the Valve stem has excessive play in it. How do I replace valve stem.

Hi, the valve stem on a gas stove is on a manifold assembly under the top. If I am correct in remembering, the burner valve unscrews to replace them. If so, take it with you along with all of the numbers,M#, S #, and so on. Best of Luck,

3 of 4 knobs do not compress to turn on gas

You must replace those controls. Cleaning or loosening them up would be temporary at best and the next time they stick it could be in the open position. Safety first...Eric

Old kenmore gas cooktop with griddle

If the knobs will not push down and turn, this indicates the gas valve stem has become contaminated with cooking debris. The only solution to this, would be to replace the gas valves. With the cooktop more than 10ys old, parts may be difficult to find. If you can find parts, they will probably be prohibitively expensive.
