are you able to see the icons on the lcd screen ( you can check it with pressing display button)

There may be the shutter was not opening. So you need to contact Canon authorised service center.
OR
There may be the CCD is faulty:
To resolve this problem, you need to contact Canon Authorised Service Center. They will replace the faulty CCD free of cost even the service charges are also not applicable for this perticular problem in some models.
